Resident Evil Requiem was released in February 2026 and immediately captivated fans: dark noir, Raccoon City, two protagonists – Grace Ashcroft and an aged Leon Kennedy. The game sold five million copies in its first week and garnered high critical acclaim. It would seem that everything is fine.
But fans are fans. They quickly noticed one annoying detail — Requiem does not have a Merchant. The same charismatic guy in a raincoat from Resident Evil 4 who hoarsely uttered “What are ya buyin’?” and made every meeting a small event. In the new part, his role is played by faceless boxes with supplies. Functionally— it’s fine. Emotionally— it’s empty.
The community didn’t think for a long time.

The NexusMods mod replaces all supply boxes with the Merchant from the RE4 Remake
A modder named fanteek took and replaced all the supply boxes in Resident Evil Requiem with a Merchant model from the RE4 remake. The mod appeared on NexusMods at the end of April 2026 and gained hundreds of discussions in a few days — judging by the activity in the comments, people really missed it.
Technically, everything is done neatly: the character stands where the box used to stand, next to it is a torch for the entourage, and in the courtyard location the author even moved the tracker of rarities closer to him so that the scene looked organic.

It takes quite a bit to install:
-
REFramework — the basic framework for modifications of RE-games
-
Fluffy Mod Manager is a popular mod manager for the series
-
Download the archive and drag it to Fluffy Mod Manager
The author honestly warns: He didn’t have time to test all the locations with boxes, so bugs are possible. But judging by the reviews, most players launch the mod without any problems.
Why has the Merchant from Resident Evil 4 become a cult character in the series
The character from RE4 has long become a meme and a cultural symbol at the same time. His phrases were parsed into quotes back in 2005, and the 2023 remake only reinforced his status. A merchant is not just a legged store. It’s a moment of respite, a recognizable voice, and the feeling that there’s at least someone in the chaos who’s happy to see you.
Requiem lacks this feeling. The supply crates do the job of “giving out ammo,” but they don’t create an atmosphere. The fanteek mod is, in fact, a fan’s answer to this gap.
Resident Evil Requiem Modding: The community is already working on REFramework and Fluffy Mod Manager
The game was released quite recently, but the modder community is active. Merchant’s Replacement is one of the first notable mods, but hardly the last. REFramework and Fluffy Mod Manager support Requiem, and the tools are familiar, which means the entry threshold for modders is low.
While Capcom has not officially added a Merchant (and is unlikely to do so), this mod is the best there is. You can download it on NexusMods by requesting “Merchant Supply Boxes Resident Evil Requiem”.
