Game director Richard Knight assured us back in the spring: “This is a character-driven adventure, not an RPG.” And judging by the latest details, Ubisoft is truly being honest.

Blackbeards Storyline and New Missions

Blackbeard pirate storyline

The new chapter, “World Without Gold,” will add eight additional missions that will delve much deeper into Blackbeard’s story—the legendary pirate will have more screen time than in the original.

Updated Officer System and Stealth Mechanics

The team also rebuilt the officer system for Jack Dev. Each of the three new recruits—Lucy, Padre, and Tobias “Dead Man” Smith—will have their own personal storyline and unique bonuses that impact gameplay.

Surveillance missions will no longer quickly fail upon detection. Noticed? There are now escape routes: chase, fight, or obtain information through other means. A change fans have been waiting for over a decade.

Animus Rifts and Assassin Contracts

Assassin contracts, Templar hunts, and naval missions have also returned, with new dialogue, improved introductions, and more generous rewards. Several Animus Rifts have also been added, revealing unexpected angles on the stories of Edward, Blackbeard, and James Kidd.

Great Inagua Base Development and Game Economy

Great Inagua pirate base

The Great Inagua refuge will no longer be a mere backdrop. It is now a fully-fledged settlement: a store, tavern, port, pirate camp, as well as a fishing pier and treasure merchant. Every investment affects not only the appearance but also the character development, the ship, and the entire economy.

Exploration has also been enhanced. Small islands hold more secrets, unique items, and Animus Keys. Local events and short story vignettes will appear in the Caribbean, bringing the world to life.

Customize Difficulty Levels at Any Time

The new difficulty system allows you to adjust the challenge level separately for melee combat, stealth, naval battles, and side activities. At any time. No restart required.

— This remake feels like a fully-fledged new game, built on the foundation of a cult classic.
