This time, the creators revealed details of the rest system, which has undergone significant changes compared to the 2001 original. Finding a free bed in Minenthal will now become a separate quest, as the Nameless Hero will literally have to earn the right to a personal bed.
How to get your own bed in the Old Camp in Gothic 1 Remake?
In the original Gothic from Piranha Bytes, the issue of overnight accommodation was solved quite simply: the player could occupy any empty hut or use someone else’s mattress while the owner was busy with other things.
In the updated version for the target platforms (PS5 and PC), the rules of the life simulation within the Mine Valley have become stricter – now the camp’s strong inhabitants will not tolerate outsiders on their territory, and attempting to sleep without permission can easily result in a blow to the head from the guards. To secure a legal place to sleep, the Nameless One must fulfill a series of conditions:

Earn a reputation among the Miners: you’ll have to prove your worth to the local workers and Ghosts by carrying out their errands (which is entirely logical given the colony’s harsh laws).

Find a vacant hut: not all buildings in the Old Camp are habitable—some are abandoned, others are locked, and still others are occupied by aggressive old-timers.

Pay in ore: nothing comes for free in Minenthal—for the right to occupy a corner, you’ll have to fork over a certain amount of magical ore to the local overseers.
The rest system in Gothic 1 Remake is directly tied to immersion and NPC behavior.
At night, the camp truly plunges into darkness, and if you decide to sneak into someone else’s house, the owner will immediately wake up and reach for his weapon. Having your own bed will become not just a convenience, but an important strategic point for restoring health and passing the time before difficult forays beyond the wooden walls.
