The year 2019 has arrived. By gaming standards, the past, to a game as ancient as it is tube-like, created by one amazing Frenchman — Benoit Sokal. In general, get ready for a trip on a mechanical express, get your Oscar. And first of all, I want to say about these stripes on the sides. This game is very ancient, and therefore I had two options: to jack this video to the point of being completely obscene or to leave these beautiful stripes as a reminder that this game was released 17 years ago. But still, this space should be filled with something. Well, that’s it — it will be better this way.

The plot of the game tells the story of Kate Walker, a young lawyer who arrived in Europe from America with the purpose of signing an agreement according to which the Vorarlberg factory — in the past one of the most prestigious manufacturers of mechanical automatons (or robots, if you understand better) — should pass to another owner. But here’s the problem: Anna Vorarlberg, the owner of the enterprise, the last representative of this ancient family, suddenly simply goes to the kingdom of the dead. And she also declares that the factory has an heir – her tragically deceased brother Hans Vorarlberg. And now, so that our Kate does not have to look for a new job, the heroine will have to go on a long and exciting journey, starting somewhere in the Alpine wilderness and ending in the Russian wilderness.

And I will say right away – this adventure is simply wonderful. Because during it you will visit several simply amazing locations in terms of architecture and surroundings – from the rather musty, but nevertheless wildly tube Valadilena to the gloomy, terrible and simply repulsive to any living person Komsomolsk.
The plot is actually very, very good, because it will be interesting to find out who this mysterious Hans is, who is able to create mechanical automatons (well, robots) with his golden hands, possessing a whole artificial intelligence. Although, frankly, this is rather a convention of the game. The creative genius of the younger Vorarlberg… Lord, what is there to talk about! Hans is able to create a whole clockwork train, in no way inferior to the usual ones.

But what personally upset me was the ending of the whole journey. Because the ending of this game is so leaky and illogical that you can strain pasta through it. After all, what the heroine did was done more to please the sequel than the character, drama, meaning, logic, and so on.
Characters
The characters in “Siberia” are easy to remember, because in our dubbing they were voiced downright diligently, attributing to each character images that in fact did not exist in the original. But that’s okay – some characters sound even more lively and wild because of this. For example, the brave test cosmonaut who traded a rocket for a bottle of vodka, or the holy fool mother from Valadilena, who sounds downright indescribably authentic and easily outdoes the foreign actor.
But, let’s say, the main character, whose voice we will hear throughout the game, is mercilessly annoying, because she is voiced, that is, dubbed, very ambivalently. After all, on the one hand, it enriches the dialogues with more colorful, emotional and expressive, and on the other hand, it spoils the characters’ personalities, completely changes their accents and adds unnecessary buffoonery.

In addition, unfortunately, the plot is somewhat blurred due to the fact that you will often be stuck on puzzles for a very long time, because the game is a point-and-click quest. And, by the way, about the riddles of the whole game – they are actually well done due to the fact that most of them are logically justified. For example: you see a door that is closed by a very strange mechanism, to open which you need to find something similar to an egg. At the same time, you recently heard from the local owner of the greenhouse that his birds are terrorized by some cuckoos, laying their eggs in other people’s nests. But here’s the problem – the way up is blocked by these very birds. But you remember that somewhere in the library you found a book about these creatures and learned that they are simply crazy about a certain type of berries. Here is a solution to the problem: you need to find the berries.
However, we note that this approach is not implemented everywhere, and the solution to some puzzles will have to be found either in guides or by using the notorious Excel hosting. Well, to be honest, during my first playthrough, about two years ago, I tried to get through — I even spent 20 minutes looking for the door to the Vorarlberg factory. That’s how it is.

Nevertheless, there is one thing in this game, besides the plot, that makes you admire “Siberia” even in our progressive times. And this thing will be the graphics. And no, you shouldn’t be surprised — because it is beautiful not in the number of polygons, but in the architectural details and various technical creations created by the sophisticated mind of Benoit Sokal. The steampunk shown in “Siberia” is simply superb and has its own unique features, namely — various, as they are called here, automotons, of which there are simply a dime a dozen in the game and which perform all sorts of and sometimes amazing functions. The architecture, like the entire creation, is quite ornate, and therefore good. You can find a trampoline, a mechanical chapel, a super-beautiful greenhouse, and so on. And some locations simply delight with their magnificence… or would delight, if not for the resolution of 800 by 600. That’s how it is. 17 years ago, such things were strictly controlled. Nevertheless, the visual component of “Siberia” is amazing and worthy of applause.
Music and graphics
The music touches the depths of the soul. The main themes of the game immediately evoke a spirit of adventure, some kind of mystery and grandeur. But the most pleasant thing is that the soundtrack from the game is simply pleasant to listen to. And in symbiosis with the game, it creates a unique ensemble.
Of some technical flaws at the moment, I can only mention the too low resolution format. Fortunately, my computer simply expanded everything, and therefore, to be honest, I did not see these stripes filled with New Year’s attributes during the passage.
Conclusion
Well, now it is worth summing up. “Siberia” is a quest, although very archaic, with the shittiest and illogical ending, very mediocre localization, nevertheless allows you to penetrate its history, feel the characters appearing in the entire game, and admire the beautiful architectural, well, or not so, masterpieces. I recommend this game to you for New Year’s Eve. Yes, and I’ll give it a rating of 8 out of 10.
Well, that’s all. If you liked the video, I recommend checking it out and subscribing to this channel. And I congratulate you on the arrival of 2019. I hope that these already not 365 days will be the most productive for the channel. I wish you good games, no less interesting books, a good, so to speak, computer… and a beaver. Good luck in the vastness of the harsh “Siberia”, dear friends.
