Where to look for proofs? In the very finale of the new trailer for the Masters Santiago tournament, sharp-eyed viewers noticed a great Easter egg. At the 1:51 mark, Killjoy and Clove are trying to locate an unknown target. The coordinates on their screens point directly to Zagreb. A coincidence? Unlikely. The capital of Croatia will almost certainly become the birthplace of the new hero. There is no official release date from Riot yet, but insiders are betting confidently on March 18, 2026 (right at the start of Act 2 of the 26th season).

All roles and character classes in VALORANT

All VALORANT agent classes

Meta regularly shakes from patches, but the basic backbone of the four classes works like a Swiss watch. The developers have clearly scattered the characters according to their combat tasks on the map. At the moment, the balance of power looks like this:

  • Controllers (6 agents)
  • Duelists (8 agents)
  • Guardians (7 agents)
  • Initiators (7 agents)

Let’s take a closer look at the Controllers (their official lore number is shown in parentheses):

  • Brimstone (01)
  • Viper (02)
  • Omen (03)
  • Astra (16)
  • Harbor (21)
  • Clove (25)

The release history of all VALORANT agents from beta

The first VALORANT agents

It’s hard to believe, but at the start of the VALORANT closed beta, the choice was much more modest. Back then, the ball was ruled by only 10 original operatives. The very first build includes: Brimstone, Viper, Omen, Cypher, Sova, Sage, Phoenix, Jett, Raze and Breach. Tellingly, after almost six years of active development of the project, this old guard has not lost its grip at all. Many of the veterans are still sitting rigidly in the met and dragging ice rinks on the pro stage.

Below we have compiled the full history of the replenishment of the roster. You can find literally everything in the summary: from the country of origin and the exact release date to the numbers, in-game roles and actors who gave the characters voices.

Valorant Agent Roster — 2025/2026

Current Valorant Agents Playlist: Who to Pick in Season 26 (Act 2)

Any rating without a clear methodology is just someone’s subjective opinion. To create a really working list of agents for the current meta, we put aside emotions and took the bare statistics. The foundation of this list is based on three reinforced concrete metrics: winrate on Diamond+ base ranks tracker.gg , the frequency of peaks in the pro scene of VCT tournaments with vlr.gg and general versatility. The logic is simple. The more cards from the pool a character is able to close without an impact drawdown, the higher his position.

By the way, the new Guardian of Veto (Agent 29, released in October 2025) has so far received only a preliminary assessment. The dataset on it is still accumulating.

S-Dash: The Meta that wins matches

  • Jett (Duelist): The peak rate on VCT has gone for 28%. The bundle of jerk, upgrade, and Operator is still the best entry package in a shooter.
  • Omen (Controller): The King of smokes at any distance. The blind in combination with the teleporter generates constant pressure across the entire geometry of the arena.
  • Sova (Initiator): The drone and arrow give free control over the film. Plus, Hunter’s Fury remains one of the best options for a postplant.
  • Viper (Controller): The foundation of any two-smoker setup. The wall and the puddle (decay) make retake attempts a nightmare to protect.
  • Cypher: The camera plus tripwires steadily vacuum up information every round — and the team’s economy does not suffer at the same time.

A-Dash: Powerful, but slightly less flexible

  • Raze (Duelist): Mobility on satchels is almost catching up with Jett. A showstopper in narrow corridors is guaranteed to pick up the change.
  • Gekko (Initiator): Recollecting abilities wildly reduces the burden on eco-rounds. Thrash generally allows you to stop the defuse without even getting close to the enemy.
  • Killjoy (Guardian): The Ultimate consistently breaks the knocking out of the site. Nanoswitches win those very critical 3-4 seconds without postplant exchange.
  • KAY/O (Initiator): ZERO/POINT silences all utilities on the point. And it’s almost impossible to dodge his flash drive with the right peak (only the counter in the squat saves).
  • Fade (Initiator): Haunt and dog (Prowler) check two lines at the same time. A recent buff patch gave her a solid +1.8% win rate.
  • Clove (Controller): A unique aggressive smoker. Resurrection after victory in the clutch is a mechanic that other classes stupidly have no analogues.
  • Deadlock (Guardian): Two consecutive buffs brought her back into the game. Annihilation now physically blocks the ability to raise the spike.
  • B-Shooting Range: Situational Spades and solo heroes-turns
  • Reyna (Duelist): The ultimate solo ranked champion. You kill, you heal (Devour), you accelerate under the ulta — a snowball machine. But there is zero team benefit.
  • Breach (Initiator): A meat grinder consisting of three flash drives and a double mill. It breaks down in a well-coordinated team, but in SoloQ its value is rapidly decreasing.
  • Tejo (Initiator): Guided Salvo flies into the most obscure corners. It requires perfect synchronization with your teammates.
  • Iso (Duelist): The shield’s mechanics (Double Tap) make it the best duelist for 1-on-1 shootouts. In massive team mixes, alas, it gets lost quickly.
  • Chamber: After a hard Nerf cycle (patch 6.11+) He never got over it. Although the synergy of the Operator and the Headhunter still works in wide spaces.
  • Harbor (Controller): His element is the meta-settings on Pearl and Breeze. On tighter maps, it loses out to Omen in terms of flexibility of use.

C-Dash: They work only in specific bundles

  • Phoenix (Duelist): Hacking through a USB flash drive is nice. But globally, its arsenal is weaker than that of Jett or Raze’in every indicator.
  • Neon (Duelist): Cutting the tackle cut off the potential to drag the game solo. It only comes in aggressive rush formulations.
  • Astra (Controller): The highest skill ceiling. In the top 750, she plays at the S-tier level, but in the average Diamond, players simply drown in micromanagement.
  • Yoru (Duelist): The most demanding guy in the roster. A fake ulta is easy to eliminate if the opponent knows how to sound correctly.
  • Skye (Initiator): A great support package with a heal and a dog. But in terms of frag impact, it is hopelessly behind KAY/O or Fade.
  • Brimstone (Controller): Molik and stimpack are too situational. The smoke falls quickly, but the coverage radius is frankly inferior to the competition.
  • Waylay (Duelist): Can unleash a powerful rush potential at a moment’s notice. Stable synergies with current meth formulations have not yet been developed for it.

D-Shooting range and beginners

  • Sage: Her Resurrection is the most powerful button, but the basic set of abilities does not allow you to keep a prisoner without a partner at all.
  • Vyse (Guardian): Arc Rose works great on Abyss and Split. We put it on an open card, and the character almost completely loses its use.
  • Veto (Guardian): Agent 29, which was released in October 2025. The accumulated logs are not enough, but the first tournament indicators directly indicate the reinforced concrete A-tier potential.

An important caveat: shooting gallery is not a verdict. Yes, dry statistics have pushed the same Sage into the D-rank. But trackers don’t know how to count situations when her successful return in an equal clutch completely reverses the outcome of the card. Reyna generally lives in two realities — this is a stable A-tier in solo games, but the zero utility package drops her to the B-rank with any structural team approach. Well, the gap between Diamond+ and the top 500 is best shown by Astra and Yoru (in the hands of the pros, these guys consistently live at a higher tier).

Why don’t the VALORANT agent numbers match?

Math in the Riot Games shooter is a bit confusing. The physical number of heroes in the roster never beats their ordinal numbers. The answer lies solely in the lore of the universe. To be more precise, the numbers are given strictly according to the order of entry of the fighters into the same VALORANT Protocol (VP) on Alpha Earth.

For example, Brimstone and Viper took away the VP-01 and VP-02 badges simply as founding fathers. At the start of the beta, we calmly closed the frags for Breach, although according to internal documents it is listed as the thirteenth (VP-13). A little later, Killjoy (VP-04) and Reyna (VP-11) flew into the game. It was then that the attentive community suspected something was wrong – one early slot turned out to be completely empty.

The Secret of Agent 8 VALORANT

Where is the Secret Agent 8 in VALORANT?

So far, the developers have kept a deathly silence about the identity of VP-08. No release dates, no accidental drains of concept art. It is because of this plot hole that the character counter always lags behind the official numbering. A recent example: Veto carries the proud call sign 29, but in fact is only the 28th available fighter in the selection menu.

Of course, the studio loves to tease fans. At a Q&A session (Reddit, early June 2021), head screenwriter Joe Killeen was pressed against the wall about the fate of the “eight”. The answer came out in the best traditions of the genre: “As soon as they return.”

Later, Clove increased the degree of intrigue. Agent 25, released on March 26, 2024, has a direct Easter egg line: “So, are we going to talk about an empty locker at the base? About where the number 08 is crossed out? Anyone? Nobody? Okay…”. We are waiting for the denouement.

Cancelled VALORANT agents in the game files

In addition to plot secrets, dataminers regularly pull out traces of cancelled projects from builds. Officially, the developers ignore these leaks (which is logical). However, the internal files hint that some of the ideas were simply cut up into mechanics for the current meta favorites.

That’s who never made it to the release.:

  • Crusader: A rough draft of a Controller with dense stun mechanics. Judging by the set of skills, the concept has smoothly mutated into the Breach arsenal.
  • Jools: A female engineer with a Seeker Bolt and stun grenades. Her work clearly formed the basis of Killjoy gadgets.
  • Shatter: The guy was able to create deception clones to distract attention. It looks a lot like Yoru, doesn’t it? Or even the very first version of the Phoenix ulta.

Let’s just say that you should not believe such plums 100%. These are typical prototypes from the time of the early alpha test.

What is known about Agent 30 in VALORANT?

New VALORANT Agent 30

Back to our mysterious newcomer. Deputy editor of Esports Insider, Rabia Sayal, has already supported the main theory of the community: Agent 30 is from Croatia. The coordinates of Zagreb in the Masters Santiago teaser are too obvious a clue to ignore.

In the same video, a strange device flashes for a split second, suspiciously resembling a stimulator (Brimstone throws a similar one). What role will the newcomer get? We count together. Since the beginning of 2024, the pool has been replenished with one Duelist, a pair of Guards and an Initiator. The conclusion is obvious — they are preparing a fresh Controller for us.

All the cards will be revealed on March 15 right at the grand final of the tournament. By the way, even the design of the Masters Santiago Cup this year refers to the visual style of the fighter, although it has not yet been possible to consider specific details. The introduction of a new tactical element is almost guaranteed to shake up the established meta of esports.
