During the development of State of Play Japan, FromSoftware announced The Forsaken Hollows add-on for Elden Ring: Nightreign. The new content will be released on December 4, 2025 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
Nightreign is a spin—off of the Elden Ring, where the developers tried to combine the familiar soulslike formula of the FromSoftware studio with modern industrial trends. The gameplay of the add-on is focused on co-op, roguelike elements and battle royale mechanics.

The character’s leveling system has received significant changes. The schoolboy has a place to be at the level of magic spells and ranged attacks, while the Undermaker uses heavy melee weapons. Each of the new characters has unique skills and a character development tree.
Gameplay changes and survival mechanics
Based on the idea of the developers, a group of three players must survive for three game days, collecting resources and improving equipment. As night approaches, you need to fight a powerful boss, and over time, a ring of darkness will shrink around the game area — this mechanic resembles the battle royale genre.
The Hollows storyline is intertwined with the main narrative of Nightreign. Players will learn more about the forgotten lands and meet new NPC characters with a greater disclosure of the mystery of abandoned locations.
With all the additions made, gamers will have access not only to new characters and opponents, but also to updated combat mechanics. The graphics and visual effects have been refined to create a graphic theme of the gloomy atmosphere in the abandoned territories.
Comparison with previous FromSoftware additions
The Forsaken Hollows shows a different approach to content formation compared to the iconic The Old Hunters for Bloodborne or the Dark Souls expansion trilogy. FromSoftware has focused on replayability and cooperative playthroughs, modifying the studio’s classic formula.
In terms of scale, the new Elden Ring addition is inferior to Shadow of the Erdtree, the main DLC of the original game, after all, The Forsaken Hollows is positioned as a compact expansion with an emphasis on multiplayer. Taking into account that the basic Nightreign already contained roguelike elements, the add-on develops this idea by adding time constraints and dynamic events. This is qualitatively different from the studio’s previous work, which was based on a non-linear single player with optional intrusion of other players.
Price and release date of The Forsaken Hollows
The cost of the supplement is $15. Owners of the extended edition of Nightreign will receive The Forsaken Hollows for free as a bonus.
The addon’s release date is scheduled for December 4, 2025. The DLC will be available simultaneously on all gaming platforms — PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Kadokawa, the parent company of FromSoftware, recently announced that sales of Elden Ring Nightreign “exceeded all expectations.” Given the success of the basic version of the spin-off, the new expansion aims to attract a new fan base for classic soulslike projects, as well as players who prefer cooperative modes with elements of survival.
