Crema Studio, known for the Pokemon-like RPG Temtem, suddenly veered towards the survival genre. The announced Temtem: Pioneers for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) is an open world, collecting resources, building a base and fighting in real time. Console versions are not excluded, but the developers say that “it’s too early to promise anything.” At the same time, we launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2026.

What is known about the project

The action takes place in a location called “Downbelow” — a wild, harsh region outside the cozy Archipelago from the original game. There are no more turn-based battles here. Instead, there is direct squad control, dynamic collisions and crafting, without which you will not be able to survive.

Downbelow harsh landscape

Key points:

  • Combat system — up to three Themes in combat at the same time, you can instantly switch between them. Dodge, combine abilities, build combos. Each monster offers a unique style.
  • Survival and construction — The Lowlands are unpredictable. It is necessary to extract resources, build shelters, expand the base. Preparation is half the success.
  • There are more than 200 Themes — among them there are completely new species that live only in this region, and familiar from the first part, but now living in the wild.
  • Single player or cooperative mode — you can explore the world solo, or you can invite friends to build settlements together and discover new creatures.
  • The role of them in survival is not only fighting. Some will help you fly over the canyon, others will find rare resources, and others will protect the base from wild fellows.

What about the consoles?

Crema is being cautious. The announcement says that plans for the console are being discussed, but “it’s too early to say anything.” Apparently, the project will get to the PC first, and then — as it goes.

A bold move or a risk?

The transition from a turn—based RPG to an action game with survival and crafting is an ambiguous decision. On the one hand, Crema clearly wants to break out of the niche genre of “Pokemon-like” games and attract a wider audience. On the other hand, fans of the original Temtem, who loved it for its tactical turn—based combat and collecting, may be disappointed.

Success will depend on one thing: how organically developers will be able to combine collecting monsters with crafting and construction. If you just get another “collection of genres” where the mechanics exist separately from each other, the project risks not finding its own player.

And a separate issue is Kickstarter in 2026. Crowdfunding looks unusual for a studio that already has a successful release. This may indicate either great ambitions that go beyond the budget, or the uncertainty of publishers. In any case, the project is worth keeping an eye on.
