Hytale has been released in early access — the story mode and the advanced engine will be released later.

We waited, along the way. The Hytale sandbox, which we managed to bury and resurrect in our thoughts ten times, officially flew into early access on January 13, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in New York (EST, UTC−5). To be honest, this is a once-in-a-decade event. The game, we remind you, was announced back in 2018, when the powerful figure of Riot Games loomed behind the developers, and the trailer’s view count exceeded tens of millions. Everyone was waiting for the “Minecraft killer”, but the project suddenly went into a deep freeze. As a result, Simon Collins-Laflamme, one of the fathers of Hypixel, simply bought back the rights — apparently in order to drag his cubic masterpiece to the finish line on his own.

Hytale Early Access Content and Available Modes

Hytale and Beasts

What was rolled out today is a working build from four years ago, wrapped in an early access wrapper. Simon, by the way, warned all fans in advance: don’t roll your lip. Hytale looks pretty raw right now — admittedly — and a full-fledged polish will take the team another couple of years of active coding.

  • Players, by the way, have discovered two basic scenarios: Exploration, where you need to survive, dig and beat mobs in procedural worlds, and classic Creative for those who just want to build.
  • The combat system, farming, and construction mechanics — the main pillars of the game — are already in place and feel like they’re working quite briskly.
  • Multiplayer is available from the first second — you can safely raise your private servers or jump to public ones, which pleases.
  • An interesting point is the Orbis worlds. The game currently uses the old V1 generation engine, but players were given a chance to explore Orbis experimental zones with the new V2 system.
  • Integration with CurseForge has been brought in for creators — the modelers’ toolkit is built right into the client, so the content will flow like a river, apparently.

In general, the situation is twofold — it’s cool that the game is alive, but there is still a lot of work ahead. The project has ceased to be a myth — and that’s the main thing, the truth. Now we can only see how quickly Hypixel can turn this foundation into a full-fledged hit, which we have been waiting for for eight years.

The reasons for the lack of a story mode and a new engine

Bugs, lags and flaws — along the way, this is exactly what awaits the first pioneers, because Hypixel decided not to pull the cat by the tail and rolled Hytale into early access “as is”. Instead of a perfect picture, the developers chose the path of co—creation – in fact, they invite us to finish the project together. By the way, localization into Russian, German and other languages was given to fans through Crowdin. Basically, anyone can go there and enter their name in the translation history, which is quite unusual for a project of this scale.

Hytale Optimization: how to maximize FPS with a weak PC

Many fans are still sitting on office calculators, where the good old Minecraft seems to be going, but it constantly stumbles over lags. In fact, if your system kit resembles an artifact from the last decade, Hytale can be a serious challenge for it. But, to be honest, you should not get depressed — even on budget builds, you can achieve a sane picture if you know which “twists” in the settings should be turned to zero.

Hardware requirements and critical components for the game

The signs that it’s time for your PC to retire are pretty obvious — these are old Pentium or Core i3 chips without multithreading, which are no longer physically capable of taking out modern tasks. By the way, 4 or 8 gigs of RAM, half of which is brazenly consumed by a browser with an open Discord, also does not add optimism.

The main nuisance will be the built-in Intel HD graphics, which in principle is not friendly with the current APIs. Add a slow hard drive (HDD) instead of a fast SSD, and you’ll get constant freezes when uploading new chunks. As a result, the game will start on such hardware only with a hard downgrade of resolution, and the stock of frames will, frankly, be on the verge of survival.

Expected FPS on budget PC builds

On a bundle of i3 and 8 GB of RAM with an “integrator”, stable 30 FPS in 720p resolution on a low-medium preset will be the limit of dreams — and this, by the way, will be an excellent result. On ancient laptops with 4 GB of RAM, you will most likely have to fight not for beautiful numbers, but for the absence of sharp drawdowns. In general, our goal is to remove the twitching of the picture, and not try to keep up with the 144 hertz esports.

Optimizing Hytale graphics settings for weak computers

The experience of finishing the Main suggests that the main load falls on the processor due to block calculations and on the video card due to world rendering. Hytale’s mechanics seem to be similar.

Ways to improve performance and frame rate

  • Resolution: Feel free to set 1280×720 — the picture will become a little soapy, but the FPS will jump. Apparently, the windowed mode (borderless) in some cases works even more stable than full-screen mode.
  • Drawing distance: This is the main resource killer — the more chunks in memory, the worse it is for the processor. For weak machines, the ceiling is 6-8 chunks in order to somehow navigate in space.

Disabling graphic effects for stable operation

Soft shadows, global lighting and any SSAO are, of course, beautiful, but in fact they eat up the lion’s share of GPU power. For a stable game, it is better to completely knock them out. We do the same with motion blur and the Bloom effect — they don’t do much good, and they consume resources like crazy.

Setting up the detail of the world and the radius of rendering mobs

  • World detail: If you turn off the animation of grass and foliage, the video card will tell you “thank you”.
  • Creatures: Reducing the radius of rendering mobs is also a useful thing that noticeably unloads the system.
  • FPS lock: Set the limit to 60 frames, so the system will not bask in vain, trying to give out too much.

Software optimization of the Hytale startup system

Make sure to set the “Maximum performance” profile in the video card settings. In Windows itself, you should also check the power supply circuit to make sure that the processor is not sleeping in power—saving mode. And, of course, close everything unnecessary: a browser with a bunch of tabs and heavy background programs should be killed before launching. Such simple preparation, by the way, gives up to 40% performance gain even without using third-party mods.

List of supported platforms and game installation

The main development vector of the sandbox now is the hard pumping of technology and stuffing the game with content to the brim. The main bet, as follows, is on Adventure Mode. It is this story mode that should become the “killer feature” that once dubbed the project “Minecraft 2”.

The second fundamental thing is the complete transition to the V2 world generator to create Orbis. The bottom line is that this system will give both developers and mod creators unrealistic control over procedural spaces. By the way, the plans also include official mini-games, a full-fledged voice chat nearby, and access to consoles. Apparently, the guys have enough money — pre-orders have provided Hypixel with a comfortable existence for at least the next two years. Collins-Laflamme himself, by the way, solemnly vowed to support the game for a decade.
