A Half-Life mod replaces Gordon Freeman with Max Caulfield from Life is Strange—and it looks insanely cool.
The author of the mod, ThePriceFielder, has released a Half-Life is Strange project page on ModDB. Instead of the silent scientist in the cult shooter, the protagonist from the first Life is Strange (and Double Exposure, and the recent Reunion) now plays. Time-rewinding abilities are included.
“Half-Life is Strange allows you to play Half-Life as the queen of spacetime and use her rollback mechanic,” the modder explains succinctly. Further explanation is really unnecessary. Max Caulfield is essentially the local G-Man for Generation Z, so why wouldn’t she appear during the Resonance Cascade?
The demo showed how it all works. A scientist runs down the stairs and is shot by Marines. But Max rewinds time and eliminates the soldiers before the poor guy dies. Some objects are highlighted with Life is Strange-style chalk cues—and it oddly fits in with Half-Life’s low-poly graphics.

On a positive note: Max can use Gordon’s entire arsenal. At the end of the trailer, she “waltzes” a couple of infantrymen with the line, “Don’t mess with Max, bitches”—five seconds was enough to make me want a full-fledged boomer shooter set in the Life is Strange universe.
The mod hasn’t been released yet; development is ongoing. In the meantime, you can check out other Half-Life DIYs—for example, a mod that finally lets you rescue scientists, or a large-scale conversion of Diffusion, where AI voices have been replaced by real ones.
