Echo of Overwatch 2 is a Damage class character with built–in artificial intelligence capable of learning like a human. For the first time, the robot joined the collection back in the spring of 2020, taking the place of one of the Overwatch agents.

Biography of Echo from Overwatch

When Overwatch was starting to spread its roots in the gaming world, its founders Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, the future Soldier 76 and Reaper, turned to talented engineer Dr. Min Liao for help.

Mina had previously worked for the corporation that created the omniks, and she knew perfectly well how to use their technology for the benefit of humanity.

While working at Overwatch, Dr. Liao created an Echo— a stable robot that executes commands and is able to develop by copying human behavior. Echo adopted the voice and manner of communication of her creator, as if she had absorbed a part of her soul.

The time interval played into a steely hand for the robot and began to think about its own purpose, going beyond the usual artificial intelligence. Only a few people knew about its true capabilities, including Agent McCree, who was responsible for the security of the project.

After the death of Mina, the project was closed, and Echo was isolated. Years later, while being transported to a government base, the convoy was attacked. McCree saved Echo and gave her a chance at a new life. Since then, she has rejoined the ranks of Overwatch, continuing to develop and participate in operations.

Echo’s Abilities and Weapons in Overwatch 2

In battle, Echo uses an arsenal of abilities that make her one of the most flexible heroines in the game.:

  • Triple shot
  • Velcro bombs
  • Directional beam
  • Flight
  • Duplication
  • Planning

“Triple Shot” launches three energy projectiles at once, each of which deals 17 points of damage. When shooting accurately, the enemy loses up to 51 HP. The Echo fires 15 rounds in one salvo and takes only 1.5 seconds to reload.

The “Velcro bombs” come out from under the hero with six charges per second. They stick to enemies and explode in an instant, dealing up to 25 damage with a two-meter radius. It is important to remember that if the Echo gets too close to the target, it can take damage on its own.

A “directional beam” is an energy stream operating at a distance of up to 16 meters. The lower the enemy’s health, the stronger the hit: at HP level below 50%, damage reaches 200 units/s.

“Flight” allows the Echo to jerk up into

the air and move in any direction for three seconds in a row. It takes 6 seconds to recharge.

“Duplication” is a popular robot ability. Echo temporarily transforms into any enemy hero and uses his abilities. The ultimate skill lasts 15 seconds, and the copy’s energy charges 6.5 times faster. However, the robot cannot copy other Echoes or heroes under shields.

“Planning” is a passive skill that allows you to gently descend from a height, as if gliding through the air. However, “hacking” Sombra is able to temporarily disable this effect.

How to Play as Echo in Overwatch

Echo has the mysterious appearance of one of the heroes in the Overwatch world. The combat robot is able to compete with many opponents and manifest itself in different roles. The developers of Overwatch 2 have given Echo special abilities, thanks to which you can experiment with tactics and fighting styles.

This is what two Echos from different teams fight for in a duel — here everything is decided by the player’s skills, precision of movements and instant reaction.

Who is Echo strong against

When keeping a distance, Echo does a great job with characters like:

  • Winston;
  • The Fist of Death;
  • Krysavchik;
  • Moira;
  • Lucio;
  • Brigitte;
  • Tracer;
  • Reinhardt;
  • Symmetry;
  • Reaper.

But it’s harder to win against these heroes:

  • Turbosvine;
  • Sigma;
  • The ram;
  • Farrah;
  • The Dawn;
  • Genji;
  • Orisa;
  • Thorbjorn.

The advantages of Echo are its “Duplication” ability. Premium passive mechanics with temporary copying of any fighter’s skills and weapons, turning into him right in the middle of the battle.

Tactics and tips for playing for Echo

Echo has 200 health points. Play closer with tank allies. Angel will be the partner with the advantage: she is able to increase Echo’s damage by 30% using the Caduceus beam. Together, they become an almost perfect duo — Echo can finish off enemies with a “Directional beam”, and Angel supports her from the air.

During the planning process, Echo steps are slow and will be an easy target. But the ability to attack from a height is a powerful trump card. From the air, Echo can throw sticky bombs at opponents or fire from above, remaining elusive.

When used correctly, “Duplication” helps not only to attack, but also to recover. By copying an enemy, Echo gets a full supply of his health — a useful trick if the situation in battle is critical.

But if the “copy” dies before 15 seconds, the Echo will return to its standard form, even if the duplication effect has not expired yet. Therefore, it is important to choose the target of copying consciously — the outcome of the battle may depend on one second.

To play as Echo at a high level, you need to know not only her capabilities, but also the weaknesses of other characters. Then choosing a character to copy will be a strategic decision, not an accident.

How to defeat the Echo

Echo is most vulnerable to ranged heroes.:

  • The Fatal Widow;
  • Ash;
  • Soldier 76;
  • Cassidy.

Avoid open skirmishes and take into account the characteristics of other opponents:

  • D.Va Can absorb sticky bombs and persistently chase the echo;
  • Bastion is able to focus fire, turning Echo into an easy target.;
  • Hanzo strikes from afar without losing damage;
  • Mei uses ice as a shield and blocks attacks.;
  • Sombra disables flight and abilities;
  • Ana and Zenyatta hit accurately and cause significant damage with their spheres and shots.;
  • Angel strengthens his teammates, turning the battle into a test for Echo.

Interestingly, Angel remains both the best ally and one of the most unpleasant rivals.

Advantages and weaknesses

Strengths and Weaknesses in Overwatch 2

Having weighty arguments against Symmetry and Torbjorn, Echo feels confident — she surpasses them in range and easily understands their turrets.The choice in battle is the best, where location control is important. When an enemy tank leads its team forward, the Echo has the option to attack from a safe distance and literally incinerate it while remaining out of reach. Even Moira doesn’t always have time to retreat — as soon as her health drops below the threshold, the Echo finishes her off with a rapid salvo. As for the Turboswitch, although it survives longer than many heroes, it still does not escape from Echo’s pinpoint attacks.

If you play as a flying character, you should beware of Cassidy, Hanzo, Widow, Soldier 76, Sojorn and Bastion – they all shoot accurately and can knock down an Echo in flight. Baptiste is particularly annoying — his ability to make allies immortal for a short time can negate the ideal approach. Sigma can throw a rock high and reach Echo’s body right in the air — keep your distance from him.

Overwatch 2 is already available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch

Echo's Strengths in Overwatch 2

Conclusion

Echo in Overwatch 2 is a Damage hero with a special charm and flexibility. She can fly, attack from the air, deliver pinpoint strikes, and even copy the abilities of other characters.

The main rule is to avoid protracted duels with sharpshooters like the Fateful Widow or Hanzo. Betting on mobility, surprise, and thoughtful “Duplication” will unlock the potential of Echo and turn it into the key to the team’s victory.
