Blizzard has finally revealed a gameplay trailer for Sierra, the new Damage class character in Overwatch 2. The trailer, titled “Summit Breach,” offers a brief introduction to the heroine’s mission: intercept Talon forces and defend Grand Mesa. It looks impressive, especially if you enjoy heights and risky maneuvers.

Sierra Release Date and Season 2: Summit
Sierra will be available to players on April 14th, along with the launch of Season 2, dubbed “Summit.” And that’s where things get interesting. The trailer hinted at an ability that could make the newcomer a prime target for bans in ranked matches. Around the 30-second mark, the heroine fires a pink dart at an enemy—after which, her bullets literally twist through the air and still hit their target, even if they’re hiding behind cover.
An auto-targeting ability is a new balancing headache.
Yes, that’s auto-targeting. And while Soldier: 76 has to unlock his ultimate to do this, Sierra, judging by the leaks, will be able to mark targets much more often with secondary fire. And the shooter community, as we know, loves weapons that decide where to fly. Even if the ability is balanced in terms of damage, there will be a ton of controversy surrounding it. We’ll hazard a guess: Sierra is quite capable of dethroning Jetpack Cat as the most banned character.
Other abilities: Drone, Carpet Bombing, and Marking Through Walls
The other mechanics seem more straightforward. The heroine can latch onto a drone for quick dashes across the map, and her ultimate, according to leaks, is Carpet Bombing. She’ll also likely be able to make enemies visible through walls, marking them for the entire team.
Pharah’s Plot Connection and the Cancellation of the Test Weekend
Sierra is part of the same security team as Pharah. Her personal story revolves around the theft of an Overwatch asset. Important: unlike previous heroes, there will be no pre-release test weekend. So, the first chance to try Sierra will only be on April 14th—the day the season launches.
How will Sierra change the Overwatch 2 meta?
What’s next? The main question is how climbing mechanics and auto-targeting will fit into the current metagame. And will Summit become a season where every other team bans Sierra?
