Actress Jennifer English, the voice of Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 and a 2025 BAFTA winner, has left the lead role in the post-apocalyptic action game Tides of Annihilation due to health issues. Eclipse Glow Games has already found a replacement; Gwendolyn’s new voice will be unveiled at Gamescom 2026 in August.

Why Jennifer English Left Tides of Annihilation?

The official statement was released on July 17. The developers confirmed that English announced her decision in early June but would remain a consultant on the project. This came as a surprise to many: the actress has transformed her regular voice work into a full-time acting role, surpassing many of her colleagues in the depth of her character development. Her credits include Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Elden Ring, Wuthering Waves, and even Marathon. A departure of this magnitude is a major cast change, but the studio assures that a replacement is already working on lines.

The official reason for the actress’s departure from the Eclipse Glow project

The actress herself explained on social media: “I need to slow down and recover.” She thanked the team for their support and promised to follow the game as a consultant. This isn’t the first time health issues have forced an artist to leave a major project, but English approached the matter responsibly, even helping to select a successor. Her successor, whose name is currently being kept under wraps, is already recording dialogue for the demo.

Will the Tides of Annihilation release date change due to the actress change?

There is no direct impact on the release—development continues on schedule. The game will be released on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, but the exact date has not yet been announced (Steam lists it as “Coming Soon”). Incidentally, there won’t be a Russian localization—this is worth considering when choosing a version.

The main proof that the project is alive and kicking is the demo at Gamescom 2026 (August 26–30, Hall 6, Booth B-050). That’s where Gwendolyn’s new voice will be heard for the first time, and a new trailer will be shown at Opening Night Live on August 25. So fans should look forward to August—the game is showing signs of life, and a personnel reshuffle wouldn’t hurt.
