EA and Bit Reactor have released the final trailer for Star Wars Zero Company, a Star Wars tactical RPG set to release on August 27th on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The trailer is generously peppered with new cutscenes and gameplay footage, and makes it clear that the developers are focusing not just on gunfights, but on a living story.

The game takes place during the final stages of the Clone Wars. Players take control of a squad of mercenaries and rebels, each with their own story and their own reasons for fighting against Imperial forces. Throughout the missions, players will have to make decisions that will literally determine whether their soldiers survive until the next mission. Team members can be assembled from a wide range of backgrounds: smugglers, astromech droids, Jedi—all will flock to the banner of Zero Company. Each operator has unique abilities, and developing relationships between squad members unlocks combat synergies. Customization is also in place: Hawks can change his appearance and combat specialization, and the rest of the soldiers can also change their equipment, abilities, and appearance.

By the way, Bit Reactor is a studio founded by people who came from Firaxis, the same team that brought the world XCOM. So the tactical component promises to be deep. However, Zero Company isn’t just a galactic XCOM clone. The campaign is designed to span 30-40 hours of hand-crafted storytelling, without procedural generation or endless repetitive missions. It seems EA and Lucasfilm Games have decided not to skimp on the narrative.

The final trailer, incidentally, was released just ten days before the release—a classic ploy to whet interest before the sales launch. As for the Switch, the publisher is still keeping quiet, so owners of the hybrid console can only hope. PC and current console owners should take a closer look: pre-orders are now open, and the Crystalline Astromech Pack is included as a bonus. Will you be able to pick it up before August 27th?
