Pro Player Cynic Qualified for RMR and Committed Suicide on Day 1

It is heartbreaking to write about such events, but they do occur. Professional Counter-Strike player David “Cynic” Polster passed away at the age of 23. The news of the American esports athlete’s death was announced by his relatives and teammates on January 27th. The cause of death has not been disclosed, but many have speculated that he took his own life due to prolonged depression.

Throughout his career, David played for several organizations. He began his journey in 2022 with the team Nouns and joined the BOSS collective last year. In January of this year, he and his team successfully qualified for the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR, but unfortunately, he will not be able to participate in the tournament. May he rest in peace.

Reactions from colleagues and family

Naturally, one of the first to react to the news was Tommy Ryan, the head coach of the BOSS team, also known as “Axed.”

“It’s incredibly difficult to talk about this, but earlier this week we lost David ‘Cynic’ Polster. This news came as a complete shock to all of us. David was an incredibly hardworking individual, a leader, a kind person, and an amazing player.

“I’ve spent a large part of my life competing against David since I turned 15. I think he’s the player I’ve competed against the most. He always pushed me and my team to improve. I’m grateful for the 30 days I spent with David as a teammate.”

David’s father, Daryl, also paid tribute, saying, “David was a unique individual. For him, the game was about the journey, not just the destination.”
