The grand final of VALORANT Masters London 2026 was memorable not only for the battle between Leviathan and Paper Rex for the championship. Right before the decisive match, Riot Games rolled out a powerful announcement of the upcoming Season 2026 // Act 4 update. The release is on Wednesday, June 24, and it will affect almost everything: a new map, a permanent 3v3 mode, a fresh line of skins and a battle pass. It looks like the developers decided not to waste time on trifles.

Review of the New Summit Interactive Map in VALORANT
The new arena is called Summit – and this is not just another “another map”. According to the lore, she hides a training academy somewhere in the Chinese mountains, where archers from all over the world hone their control over radiants. There used to be a monastery there – it was there that Sage learned the basics before joining the ranks of VALORANT.
Summit’s structure is classic: two bomb sites and three corridors. But the highlight is the three resettable walls, one at each point and another one in the center. To activate such a wall, just shoot at a special node.
Once installed, the wall blocks view and movement paths for the rest of the round. Teams will have to keep in mind which walls are already activated and rearrange plans on the fly – otherwise the enemy will easily seize the initiative.

The card is added to the rating pool immediately upon release. For the first two weeks, Riot has introduced a gentle regime: for defeats at Summit you will lose 50% less rating, but victories still bring the full 100%. A tricky move so that players are not afraid to experiment and quickly master a new location. And in the first week, a separate queue will be available only for Summit in the Swiftplay format – no rating risks, only training.
How Riot Games is Reducing the Loss of RR Rating Points
The new Summit card radically breaks the usual timings and behavior patterns of gamers. Unlike other locations with static geometry, here players have to adapt to a dynamically changing landscape right in the middle of the round. The passage available at 1:30 is easily blocked by 0:45 – just collapse the wall to completely block the line of sight (siteline). Understanding the difficulty of adaptation, Riot has built a comprehensive support system, where reducing the rating penalty by 50% is only part of the global plan.
The main task for society now is to understand the layout and logic of using interactive objects.
Safe development of the map is guaranteed by two key tools that the developers deployed simultaneously:
-
Ranking Mode: The first two weeks of defeat at Summit will cost half as much in RR equivalent. However, players still receive a full 100% of points for winning matches. This allows you to farm rank painlessly.
-
Special matchmaking: For the first seven days, a separate Summit Only queue in the fast Swiftplay format is available in the client. This is an ideal sandbox to learn basic callouts, get a feel for timings and the logic of moving around the map without unnecessary nerves and loss of ranks.
Summit Adaptation Mechanics Chart
The decision to add Summit to the competitive pool immediately on June 24, bypassing the standard test period in unranked, is a deliberate move on Riot’s part. The developers throw the community into combat conditions, since in regular games without rating it is impossible to recreate the real competitive pace and develop the right habits. The plan is solid: players learn in a stressful environment, but with a safety net for rank.
Five Key Tips for Winning the Summit Map
While the grace period is in effect, it is urgent to master the key features of the location:
-
Interactive switches. There are three destructible walls on the map – at points A, B and in the middle. Each one goes down after firing at the control panel (safety margin – 125 HP). Please note: on bombsites, the panels are turned towards the attacking side, and the central switch is located sideways towards the Mid Bottom position. This completely changes the structure of pre-round preparation.
-
Remote trigger abilities. You can activate the panels from afar without exposing yourself to fire. Sova’s reconnaissance arrow, Raze’s missile salvo, or Tejo’s skills break the node instantly. The ability to drop a wall in time at a distance is the main trump card for unexpectedly seizing the initiative.
-
Dominance in the mid lane. In terms of scale, Summit surpasses the usual Ascent and Sunset. The central zone connects both bookmark points almost as tightly as it is implemented on Haven. Control of the Mid Fountain point automatically allows you to dictate your terms for rotations, and ignoring the mid will lead to constant stabs in the back.
-
Melee range. Once you close the walls, spacious areas turn into corridors for short-to-medium shootouts. In such conditions, the Operator sniper rifle instantly loses its relevance. Our priorities are Phantom, Sheriff pistol and Specter submachine gun.
-
Fatal outcome under the wall. The mechanics are merciless: any agent who finds himself under a falling structure at the moment of its activation dies on the spot. There is no salvation even in the ultimate abilities of Clove or Yoru with their invulnerability. Positioning near switches is a huge risk.
As for the current meta, Riot is actually leading players by the hand to the right agent setup. The Guardians Sage and Cypher are revealed very well at Summit. Sage’s slowdown and barriers complement the interactive walls perfectly, and the Cypher camera continues to collect information even after the mechanisms are activated. Omen is good as a versatile flex, and Sova is great because of his ability to manipulate passing lanes at a distance. The window with a reduced rating penalty will close at the beginning of July – this is the best time to limit test crazy tactics and aggressive setups while the system forgives mistakes.
New Permanent Game Mode Retake Three on Three
The second surprise is the Retake mode, which is finally becoming a permanent event rather than a temporary one. Here the round begins with a bomb already installed: after a couple of seconds it appears in a visible place on the point. One team defends the facility, the second storms it to overcome the defenses and neutralize the charge. The sides change every round, the match goes until five wins.

Instead of entire maps, individual bookmark points from existing arenas are used – Riot promises that they are carefully selected for the format, and the pool will expand over the course of the act. A special touch is the system of equipment cards at the beginning of the round. The player is given two random sets of weapons and armor, plus a separate choice of ability charges. With each round, these sets become more powerful, so the game gradually gains momentum – we have already seen something similar in other Riot projects, and it takes off there.
Blackspyre Skin Collection and New Battle Pass
Simultaneously with the update, the Blackspyre collection will launch – a mix of science fiction and mysticism in skin design. Includes: Phantom, Sheriff, Specter, Ares and the new Divide melee blade. It looks expensive, but Riot has not yet announced the price for the sets.
The battle pass will cost 1000 VP. For this money, among other goodies, you will receive a Sky Reaper skin for the Ghost, a Heal Up Squad player card and a Blep spray. The content is more modest than some past passes, but considering all the other innovations, the update looks solid.
The announcement, we recall, thundered right before the grand final of Masters London, where Team Leviathan and Paper Rex competed for the cup – one of the main events of the season. Riot promised to publish full patch notes with balance changes closer to June 24. Therefore, the developers decided to hit on all fronts at once, and now the community can only wait for the release and see how well Summit walls and Retake dynamics will fit into the current meta. Most likely, the first days will be hot – and this does not even take into account the finale, which has already given us a lot of emotions.
