Don’t Starve Elsewhere: Klei Reveals New Survival Game with Vertical World and Fog - Image 1

The developers from Klei Entertainment seem to have decided that the world of Don’t Starve has not been squeezed to the end yet. Not at all. The studio announced Don’t Starve Anywhere — and this is not a DLC, not a seasonal update, but a full-fledged new game in the series. The genre is still the same — survival with all the consequences. The platform at launch is PC via Steam. The release date? They’re still silent. And this, by the way, is to be expected.

What is known about Don’t Starve Anywhere

“Don’t starve” — but now the conditions are tougher

The description from Klei herself sounds promising. We are promised a “strange and merciless new world” — magic, monsters, secrets. From the usual equipment — only the head and arms. Well, and what you find on the way. You can invite friends, you can go solo — it’s up to you.

You will have to explore new locations, build a base, extract resources and, of course, not die along the way. The main rules, as the authors remind us: do not fall, do not linger in the Fog and — most importantly — do not starve.

Key features: multilevel nature and climate as an enemy

That’s where it gets interesting. The developers promise a “multi—level wilderness” – that is, the world is no longer flat like it used to be. You will need to climb snow—capped peaks, swim across rivers (and even seas), and descend into caves that are winding and obviously inhospitable.

Biomes are procedurally generated. Each new passage is unique. This, by the way, is a feature of the series, but here they promise to upgrade it.

The climate is no longer just a picture. There are incessant downpours in Krasnolesye. At altitude— it’s cold, which you need to prepare for. There are also territorial creatures that will try to bring down thunder on you. Literally.

The fog is the main mystery

A fog tank was singled out separately. He crawls on the ground — thick, disgusting, cursing everything he touches. You have a choice: run away from him or risk your sanity and try to explore what’s inside. Judging by the description, the second option is for those who are not afraid to lose their heads (and not in a figurative sense).

What about the release date?

But nothing. Klei has not yet disclosed the figures. There is a feeling that the game is in active development, but it is still far from being released. The platform is PC—only via Steam consoles and other stores, probably later, if at all.

Is it worth the wait?

If you’re a fan of Don’t Starve, then yes. The series has always been known for its atmosphere, complexity, and that “one more try, please” feeling. Elsewhere looks like evolution: a vertical world, climate threats, Fog that literally drives you crazy. Plus, procedural generation — replay value promises to be high.

It’s another matter when exactly it will be released. We’re still waiting. In the meantime, you can replay the old versions — fortunately, it’s easy to stay hungry there.
