To be honest, I’ve lost count of how many times Jeff Kiely has made unexpected announcements, but here’s another one: he announced that Resident Evil Requiem will be shown at The Game Awards 2025. The news broke out on his social network X — after all, he likes to share such surprises there. And you know what? It feels like a wave of expectation has risen around Requiem again, as it happened with previous Capcom games.

The show itself will take place in December, and this is exactly the moment when you want to see fresh materials, and not guess at leaks. It should be added: the audience is probably hoping for a full-fledged piece of gameplay, because the preliminary excerpts only whetted interest. Sometimes I catch myself thinking — what if they hide a hint of the return of classic heroes? There may be rumors, but no one really knows if, for example, Leon Kennedy will appear. Funny thing: sometimes fans notice details before anyone else, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the first guesses come out literally on the day of the show.

The release is also definite: February 27, 2026, and the game will be released on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch 2. The reason for this is probably Capcom’s standard policy of releasing major titles on all popular platforms at once. The English version has already been confirmed. And here’s another detail that attracts attention: the action takes players back to Raccoon City, where Grace Ashcroft is trying to unravel a chain of strange deaths. What a challenge… Especially if you remember what secrets this town usually hides. Between you and me, I love it when horror throws up these strings — they set the right drive.

It is also interesting that the material shown earlier left too many unsaid. Generally speaking, the project looks large-scale, but the feeling of fog around the details does not disappear anywhere. For example, what about the plot intrigue? What is hidden behind the first plan? I admit, the less they reveal in advance, the more they want to see the final version.

The TGA screening is likely to be the centerpiece of Capcom’s pre-release campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was there that they would give the first significant presentation of atmospheric scenes and mechanics. And now the most interesting thing: at the beginning of 2026, the developers will prepare a separate broadcast of the Resident Evil Showcase, where they will reveal additional information about Requiem. I bet there will be the very details that are so lacking right now, from the mood of the first locations to more mundane systems like inventory or mission structure.

In general, there is a pleasant feeling that Capcom intends to steadily promote the game without dumping everything at once. And even if some moments are kept under lock and key, the feeling of waiting is almost like before the premieres of old parts. Gee… sometimes it seems that the series is reaching a new level of popularity again.

Gameplay and innovations in Resident Evil Requiem

In short, Resident Evil Requiem is expected to be not just another horror, but a careful update of familiar systems. Judging by how Capcom usually develops the series, the gameplay mechanics will again run into classic survival horror: few resources, nervous forays through dark corridors and the constant feeling that there are fewer bullets than zombies. And here the possible emphasis on zombie combat is interesting — not a dumb shooting, but a choice: retreat, bypass, set on fire, stun.

Raccoon City exploration can also play in a new way: more verticality, hidden routes tied to the history of the districts, and those very re requiem features that everyone is guessing about. It seems to me that Capcom innovation here will not be about breaking the formula, but about small things: modifications for new weapons, environments that can be used against enemies, and events that react to the style of passing. If this happens, Requiem will become the type of game where, after each raid through the city, you want to return to a safe zone, exhale and think: “Okay, who’s the real monster here — me or the infected?»
