Biological Enamel is one of the rarest resources in Subnautica 2, although it is only used in one recipe. This refers to Enameled Glass. But its importance here is paramount: without it, you can not power up the Tadpole or craft a couple of advanced tools. So, it is worth getting a small supply of enamel in the first third of the game—it will pay off later.

Biological Enamel Locations and Coordinates
First, you will have to work a little. After you deal with the Tadpole Depot and complete its objectives, a passage to the Alien Ruins location will open. It is beyond the large open body of water patrolled by the Leviathan Collector. Several tall buildings jut out there—it is impossible to miss them.

Have you reached the ruins? Now head a little further, past the tower that reaches the surface. You will see a group of rock formations with white protrusions—they resemble clusters of thin bones or needles. This is our goal.
The exact coordinates of this location are approximately 1,365 meters east of the Escape Pod, at a depth of approximately 200 meters.

Instructions for harvesting enamel and protection from the Needle Shark
There is one caveat: these rocks are the nesting grounds of the Needle Shark. This long, eel-like fish attacks without hesitation. While you are gathering resources, it will circle nearby. So here is a tip: stay in the Tadpole almost all the time, only popping out for a few seconds for a quick harvest, and then immediately dive back in.
And do not forget the most important thing: to harvest Biological Enamel, you need a Sonic Resonator. Place it on your toolbar before exiting the vehicle. Once you have collected your first batch, weld enameled glass—it will increase the Tadpole’s durability. Then you can return for more to upgrade the rest of your equipment.
Crafting Recipes for Biological Enamel and Glass
Enamel itself is only needed for one intermediate crafting item: Enameled Glass. Glass, however, is used for a variety of useful upgrades. So, essentially, the full value of enamel is revealed through it.
Below are all the recipes that use Biological Enamel (directly or through Enameled Glass).
How to make Enameled Glass in the Crafter?
-
1x Glass + 1x Biological Enamel
Shockproof Vehicle Crafting
-
2x Enameled Glass + 2x Strontium
Tadpole Depth Module MK.1 (Modification Station)
-
3x Celestine, 2x Enameled Glass, 1x System Chip
Bioscanner Upgrade (Modification Station)
-
1x Scanner, 2x Enameled Glass, 3x Conductive Crystal
Reflected Wave Resonator Upgrade (Modification Station)
-
1x Sonic Resonator, 2x Enameled Glass, 2x Conductive Crystal, 2x Strontium
Watch (Builder)
-
1x Titanium, 1x Enameled Glass, 1x Copper
Tadpole Cargo Chassis (Vehicle Fabricator)
-
4x Titanium Ingot, 3x Strontium, 3x Enameled Glass, 1x Dedicated Core
By the way, please note: without Enameled Glass, you will not be able to upgrade the Tadpole’s depth, defense, or the scanner with a resonator. So, the white “needles” you find are not just a trophy, but the basis for half a dozen upgrades.
How much Biological Enamel is needed for the storyline
Let us be brief: to confidently complete the storylines, prepare at least 7 units of Biological Enamel. This is the resource threshold beyond which the game simply will not let you continue with the quests. Where does this figure come from? Let us delve into the math behind crafting.

The concept is simple. Each unit of the source material is converted into Enameled Glass at a strictly one-to-one rate. Accordingly, we need to calculate the cost using the blueprints, and then it will immediately become clear how much we will need to farm.
Required resources for modules and upgrades
Of these dozen modules, only three are truly essential for progression. First, the Depth module Mk.1 (try reaching the lower levels without it—you will quickly be sent back to base without any loot). Secondly, Shockproof Protection literally saves the hull when a Leviathan Collector is circling nearby. And the Bioscanner Upgrade is an absolute must-have for completing the Axum quest chain. That is a total of 6 enamel points—the critical minimum needed to push the progression to the next stage.
The rest of the attachments, like the Clock or the Tadpole Cargo Chassis, are purely a comfort zone. If you do not like wiping out locations, feel free to put these blueprints aside until your next trip to the deposits.
What is the practical approach? It is possible to take out 4-6 pieces in a single trip to the rock formations without even provoking the Needle Shark into a protracted fight. A couple of such careful forays, and the full set will be safely stored at your base.
