The Second Galactic War in Helldivers 2 has received a key audience retention tool. The developers at Arrowhead Game Studios have rolled out the Galactic Campaigns system—a major update designed to transform chaotic combat into a structured narrative with unique loot. We explore how this new feature changes the rules of play on the galactic map and why ignoring global musters is no longer an option.

Why did Arrowhead rework the Major Orders system?
Completing global objectives used to feel routine, but patch 0.6.3 “The Oppression Engine” completely restructured the motivations of Super-Earth’s soldiers. Campaigns have effectively become global story arcs that unite the familiar chains of Major Orders into a unified narrative. The gameplay remains fundamentally the same. But the community now has a real incentive to coordinate strikes, as the stakes are now more than just mundane “Medals” for leveling up Warbonds.

All operational information on current operations is streamed directly to the Control Center terminal on your super-destroyer. The screen on the bridge has become a fully-fledged tactical hub: it displays story briefings, displays progress on milestones, and displays lists of future rewards. Incidentally, you can also browse the archive of completed campaigns to refresh your memory of the war’s chronology.

The main differences between Campaigns and Major Orders in Helldivers 2
-
Scale and structure. Major Orders now serve only as local tactical objectives (individual chapters), while a Campaign is an entire book.
-
Exclusive high-end loot. Completing chains rewards unique equipment. For example, in the “Census Thunder” campaign (mid-June 2026), a completely new “Stratageme” was at stake.
-
Community contribution is crucial. The final triumph is directly tied to the percentage of successful Major Orders completed by players within a strictly allotted time.

For casual gamers who haven’t missed key activities, the reform will go unnoticed—they’ll simply start receiving larger rewards. Everyone else should reconsider their approach to Command orders. The reward for winning the campaign will still be credited to every Helldiver, even if you’ve been sitting out trivial missions. However, if the community fails a critical mass of intermediate quests, everyone will be left without new vehicles and weapons.
The Galactic Campaigns mechanics are currently in the early stages of testing. It’s clear that Arrowhead will continue to balance and complicate this system as the story unfolds, so deploying your forces on the front lines will require careful consideration.
