A critical Dazzle bug has been discovered in Dota 2: attacking buildings from anywhere on the map

By the way, Dota 2 has another bug and a software bug with the Dazzle character. People say that he can break buildings in any location on the map, even without leaving his place! At first we thought it was just some kind of bug, but then we realized it was a pure exploit that was easy to replicate if you put the right things together.

How the dazzle bug works: the mechanics of the exploit

To reproduce the error, you will need three items: Aghanim’s Shard (ability enhancement), Eul’s Scepter of Divinity (lifting heroes into the air) and Meteor Hammer (dealing area damage with a delay).

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Use Eul’s Scepter on Dazzle itself
  2. While in the air, activate the Dazzle (Bad Juju) ultimate in any direction.
  3. Immediately aim the Meteor Hammer at an enemy structure anywhere on the map.

How the dazzle bug works

As a result of this combination, the hero’s astral form instantly moves to the target — a tower, barracks, or even a throne — regardless of the distance. At the same time, Dazzle himself physically remains in his starting position, which makes him virtually invulnerable to a counterattack.

Advanced Exploit Features

The error opens up additional tactical possibilities. Players can combine this glitch with other items, such as Dagon, to attack not only buildings, but also enemy heroes. Imagine: you stand by the fountain and damage the tower in the enemy base, while eliminating the opponents defending it.

Such mechanics completely break the concept of positioning in the MOBA genre. Usually, to attack buildings, the team must take risks by pushing through the line and being in the enemy’s line of sight. The bug has Dazzle parameters to ignore all these rules.

Context: Previous mistakes in Dota 2

Valve regularly faces similar problems. Recently, the developers fixed a bug with Night Stalker, due to which his Void ability covertly reduced the view of rivals and incorrectly interacted with some skills. In particular, the bug affected the Luna ultimate even when the Black King Bar was active, which also violated the basic game mechanics.

Another recent finding was a glitch with the dragon model from the Monster Hunter collaboration and the altar of Wisdom, which led to unexpected visual effects and problems with hitboxes.

What impact did the bug have on the MMR and on esports?

The appearance of this exploit is especially relevant against the background of the ongoing BLAST Slam V Dota 2 tournament (November 25 — December 7). The group stage is played online, and the playoffs will be held in Chengdu, China, with a prize pool of 1 million dollars.

Ordinary players who like to play dota 2 have started to use it frequently in MMR competitions and win each match accordingly.

It is still unclear whether the organizers will take additional measures to prevent the bug from being used at official matches. Usually, such critical errors lead to emergency patches from Valve or a temporary ban on the heroes involved in tournament mode.

What’s next?

The history of Dota 2 bugs shows that Valve usually reacts promptly to such findings, especially when they relate to the ability void or an imbalance in competitive matches. In short, a patch fixing the bug at a fast pace, with a further normal way to attack buildings from a safe location, will most likely be released in a few days.  For now, it’s better not to use it in rating games, otherwise the Dota 2 patrol will be banned. It’s not according to the rules.
