Dota 2 is losing its audience every day — over the past 30 days, the average daily online traffic has decreased by almost 60 thousand people. The drop was 9.92%, and the average stood at 537,782 simultaneous players. According to Steam Charts, this is the worst result for Valve’s discipline in the last seven years — comparable figures were recorded only in 2019.
Why has online Dota 2 dropped to its lowest level in 7 years?
The situation is not the best outcome against the background of the February successes. A month ago, Steam Charts statistics recorded abnormal growth: the average online Dota 2 reached 597,010 people. It was the best month for the game in a long time — in fact, since October 2016, when there were more than 639 thousand users in Dota at the same time.

What exactly went wrong is an open question. The game is currently in full swing with the spring season of “Curiosities of the Quartero” — this is the last major update that was supposed to keep the audience interested. As part of the event, players can farm cosmetic items and other rewards, but it seems that this content was not enough to block the outflow of users.
The main figures from the Steam Charts report:
-
Current average online: 537,782 players — an anti-record in recent years.
-
The scale of the decline: The audience decreased by 9.92% (minus 60 thousand people) in just a month.
-
February peak: 597,010 users, the best result since October 2016.
-
Content: The drop occurs right during the seasonal update of “Curiosities of the Quartero”.
It looks like Valve will have to come up with something more serious than cosmetic awards to bring people back to the customer. In the meantime, the schedule is inexorably creeping down — and this is clearly not the result that the developers expected in the spring of 2026.
