Valve continues to experiment with the CS2 code — the latest update from March 19 brought not only controversial gameplay changes, but also a pack of interesting finds in the game files. The well-known data miner Thour has discovered mentions of new cosmetic items in the system. Apparently, the developers are preparing to expand customization for agents — now we are talking about full-fledged clothing options.
On his social media account, X Thour asked a reasonable question: do players really need even more “cosmetics” against the background of current problems? However, the lines of code in today’s update don’t just point to skins. Valve seems to have taken a closer look at the internal mechanics — traces of improvements to the trust and matchmaking system have been found in the files. In addition, there are signs that the authors have improved the algorithms for analyzing the movements and actions of players, probably to combat cheaters.
What was found in the CS2 files after the March 19th update
In addition to the potential clothing for agents, the developers have implemented a number of fundamental changes in the 83.3 MB patch. The main impact was on the reloading system — now, when changing the magazine, unused cartridges are simply lost. The new ammunition display and these hardcore mechanics have caused a flurry of criticism. At the moment, this patch has become the most negatively received CS2 update among the Steam community — players clearly did not appreciate such a radical approach to realism.

Major changes and discoveries in the code:
-
Customization of agents — new lines responsible for clothing and additional visual elements have been found.
-
Anti—cheat and Matchmaking – Valve is updating the trust system and player movement tracking methods to improve the quality of matchmaking.
-
The shooting mechanics are a complete reworking of the logic of reloading, which has changed the usual pace of the game.
While Thour is examining hidden files, ordinary users continue to bombard Valve with angry reviews. Whether the new “cosmetics” will be an attempt to smooth out the corners or just add fuel to the fire, we will find out in the upcoming announcements.
