Sean “FMPONE” Snelling, the author of the legendary Cache map, released a new work for Counter-Strike 2 today, April 12, 2026. Its name is de_splinter, and it is already available for free download on Steam Workshop. The action takes place at a sawmill in the Canadian mountains — an atmospheric and rather unusual place for shootouts.

In fact, de_splinter is a modern reinterpretation of the classic de_Coaline. Judging by the first details, FMPONE has relied on vertical spaces and narrow corners. This geometry can seriously change tactics: an ambush can be waiting for every turn, and altitude control will become critical. However, the design will probably still be finalized — the author will most likely rely on player feedback and telemetry.
What is this release in the context of the whole Cache story? This is the first independent launch of FMPONE after the rights to the Cache remake were transferred to Valve. Now the official version from Valve is undergoing optimization and changes — the company has hinted more than once on social networks that it wants to return the card to the competitive mapool. In the meantime, you can evaluate de_splinter. By the way, a sawmill in the mountains is a great reason to check out how CS2 works with vertical gameplay.
