Rumors about the sudden rotation of cards in CS2, which broke out on Sunday, January 4, turned out to be premature. HLTV users noticed Anubis in the list of active mappula for the upcoming IEM Krakow 2026, where he allegedly supplanted Overpass. The situation immediately provoked a wave of discussions, but a technical glitch on the portal was confused with Valve’s real plans.

HLTV editor Milan ‘Striker’ Švejda quickly clarified the details: the appearance of the map in the list is a consequence of the use of outdated data in the site’s system, and not an insider about the permutations.

Key facts about the current mappula cycle:

  • Official status: Anubis left the competitive scene back in July 2025 with the launch of the third season of “Premier”. Premiere Season 4 will be on January 28, 2026.
  • Current roster: Overpass firmly holds a place in the pool, which remains the main location for both professional championships and ranking matches.

The developers from Valve continue to remain silent regarding the return of Egyptian sands to the game. An analysis of current metrics shows that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the rotation of the mappula is not among the company’s priorities. Experts attribute this to the need to seriously adjust the balance of the parties on Anubis, where the attack traditionally has too high an advantage.

Instead of the expected return of the old maps, the focus has shifted to testing the updated Train and Cache, traces of which are regularly found in the update files. At the moment, it makes more sense for professional teams to focus on the current seven cards, without being distracted by false signals in statistical services.

Based on this, Overpass will retain its position in the upcoming majors, and Anubis fans will have to wait for radical changes in the geometry of the entry points before the map gets a second chance on the pro stage.
