Dead Rising May Get a Sequel
The Dead Rising series seems to be preparing for a real comeback. The MP1st portal reports: Capcom is developing a fresh zombie action game. The project was launched back in 2023 and is codenamed Rec. Insiders say that Frank West will be the main character again, and the game itself will be a direct sequel to the very first Dead Rising. However, no one has officially confirmed this yet.
Judging by the MP1st leaks, the events will unfold in Hollywood — on the giant closed territory of the film studio, where the zombie virus is raging. The main villain will be a mad director. He forces Frank and the other survivors to undergo death tests in order to make his “masterpiece.”
The exact timing of Capcom’s presentation remains a mystery. MP1st notes: there are no specific release dates, there is still a lot of time before the release. In 2024, the studio released a remaster of the original, powered by the RE Engine, with updated graphics and improved gameplay.
What exactly will be shown to the public and when is a mystery. Capcom hasn’t officially announced anything, so it’s all just a rumor. But the success of the recent Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster could well convince the publisher to resurrect the franchise.

The story of the Dead Rising franchise: From the original to the failure of DR4 and rebirth
The first Dead Rising was released in 2006 on Xbox 360 and became an instant hit. Players got a shopping mall full of zombies and an insane amount of improvised weapons, from skateboards to lawn mowers. Frank West, a photojournalist with charisma, quickly fell in love with fans. The second part expanded the formula by adding co-op and weapon crafting. Dead Rising 3 has moved to Xbox One, becoming darker and more serious, but retaining the spirit of absurdity.
But the fourth part disappointed many. DR4 brought Frank back, but removed the timer, a key mechanic of the series. The cooperative was cut back, the psychopaths were replaced by faceless “maniacs”, and the atmosphere became too light. Critics and fans received the game coolly. After that, the series froze for seven years. The 2024 remaster showed that interest in the franchise is alive. Capcom brought back the timer, improved the graphics, and reminded us why the original was so good. Now the studio seems ready to give the series a second chance.
Hollywood in Dead Rising: How will the setting change the zombie apocalypse and gameplay
Moving the action to Hollywood opens up crazy possibilities. A film studio is the setting for westerns, fantasy blockbusters, and horror films. Each location can become a separate game biome with unique weapons. Imagine: laser rifles from sci-fi movie props, samurai swords from historical dramas, explosives from action movies. Improvised weapons have always been a feature of the series, and in the movie setting it will sound in a new way.
Celebrity NPCs will add spice. Rescuing moody actors, paranoid producers, and eccentric stuntmen is perfect mission material. Mechanics can change: for example, using surveillance cameras to track zombies, activating pyrotechnics on the set, or controlling studio lighting to dazzle crowds of the dead. An antagonistic director who arranges bloody “filming” will turn survival into a monstrous show. Hollywood glamour and zombie meat grinder are a contrast that can breathe freshness into the series, which was lacking in DR4.
