The Arena has consistently stood out as one of the most beloved game modes among players throughout the history of the game. It offers a straightforward concept that players can easily grasp, yet the path to mastering it is anything but simple and requires a fair amount of dedication and skill. A distinctive feature of this mode is that you don’t need an extensive collection of cards to jump in—all it takes is a modest entrance fee of 150 gold.

In a bid to breathe new life into this classic experience, Blizzard has introduced a fresh update, unveiling two distinct types of Arenas: the regular Arena and the underground Arena. Both variations now boast exciting new rewards and incorporate a ranking system that adds an extra layer of competition. In this guide, we’ll dive deep into what the underground Arena has to offer, explore the various rewards available, identify the best legendary groups to choose for each class, and discuss which cards are wise picks to consider after facing your first defeat.

On July 20, 2025, League of Legends rolled out a brand-new mode titled “Arenas.” In this guide, we’ve taken the time to explore the intricacies of this mode, providing you with several strategies and tips designed to enhance your chances of victory.

New Modes and Ratings in LoL

Arena — the mode will be interesting for beginners from the deck collection, which makes the adventure educational, in which you test your intuition, strategic thinking and ability to catch stability. Here, every card choice matters, and victory feels especially sweet. With the release of update 25.18, the Arena has gained new life and is now divided into two formats: Standard Arena and Underground Arena.

In Standard Arena, you will find an updated, more dynamic deck building process, new rewards and quick matches that are ideal for both beginners and those who enjoy experimenting and creating ideal card combinations. Here you can relax, try different strategies and enjoy the atmosphere of the game without unnecessary pressure.

Underground Arena is a completely different story. This is the territory of seasoned fighters, where every decision you make is at stake. Access to it must be earned, because everything is more serious here: matches are longer, stakes are higher, and rewards are much more valuable. A new feature of the mode is the ability to improve and adjust your deck even after a defeat, which makes each subsequent battle even more promising. For Arena veterans, this will become a real home, a place where you can test yourself and enjoy the tactical sense to the maximum. This mode is designed for those who thrive on fast-paced battles, with each match typically lasting between 10 and 20 minutes. Players have the option to team up in pairs or take on the challenge solo, making it versatile for different play styles.

In the standard Arena, opponents are matched based on closely aligned skill levels, ensuring a balanced experience. On the other hand, the Underground Arena introduces a twist, allowing players of varying abilities to compete against each other, which can lead to unexpected and thrilling matchups. The leaderboards will exclusively showcase performances from the Underground Arena, and players will also have access to results from previous seasons online after the update.

With this exciting update, the Arena makes a triumphant return to the main menu, while Brawls will be conveniently moved to the “Modes” section. This restructuring aims to enhance player experience and engagement in the game.

How the Ranked System Works and What Rewards Give in LoL

In this exciting new mode, a fully-fledged ranking system will be implemented, featuring five distinct tiers: “Tree,” “Bronze,” “Silver,” “Gold,” and “Gladiator.” During the initial five matches, players will not face any penalties in terms of points lost, allowing them to adjust without the pressure of rankings. After these introductory matches, players will earn points exclusively by achieving first or second place, adding an extra layer of competition. While details on rewards are still under wraps, it’s highly anticipated that players will be awarded unique icons or various cosmetic enhancements to showcase their achievements.

Summoner Spells and Runes in Arena Mode for LoL

In the Arena mode, players will not be required to choose summoner spells or runes, simplifying the gameplay experience. Instead, every player will begin with the “Flash” spell and the “Escape” ability, which boosts a champion’s speed when they are retreating from adversaries. This streamlined approach allows for more dynamic gameplay. Rather than the traditional runes, players will have access to special enhancements known as augmentations, which will provide unique boosts and strategies tailored for the Arena setting.

How to Choose the Best Buffs in Arena Mode: Tips and Strategies for Each Role

In this mode, players can explore enhancements that come in three distinct tiers: silver, gold, and prism. With around one hundred different enhancements available, each drop is random, making every game a unique experience. These enhancements are innovative revamps of those originally found in the classic “Rift of Summoners” and “Teamfight Tactics.”

Identifying the absolute best options can be challenging, as their effectiveness often hinges on the specific champion pairings in play. For instance, if you’re playing as a support mage, it’s wise to target an augmentation that inflicts damage proportional to your healing output against enemies. This strategic choice can significantly influence the dynamics of the match, enhancing both your survivability and your team’s overall performance.

Arena Mode Match Start: Gold, Items, and Choosing the Right Champions

As players enter the lobby, the excitement begins with each participant taking turns to ban a champion, ensuring strategic decisions right from the start. Following this, everyone selects their characters, setting the stage for the upcoming match. The draft choices of opponents remain shrouded in mystery until the battle officially begins, adding an element of surprise. In the “Arena,” players can indeed choose the same heroes, but each matchup prohibits two players from using the same champion, encouraging diverse strategies.

At the outset of the game, each player is equipped with one thousand gold. This currency can be spent on either a modified basic item or the final version of boots, allowing for some initial customization. After each round concludes, players receive a reward, which can either be three thousand gold or a power-up of their choice, providing opportunities to enhance their gameplay as the match progresses.

Details about the abilities of the hero of Battle Souls

With the start of the fourth round, an event larger than life will take place on the battlefield: characters from the legendary Battle Souls series will intervene in the battle. They are led by artificial intelligence, and each of them comes with their own character, habits, and unique abilities. They can become both loyal allies and insidious opponents. It all depends on whose side their will is on.

Let’s get to know them better:

Evelynn. Cunning, mysterious, and insidious. Evelynn knows how to turn a fight into a game of hide and seek: her special gift is to cast a cloak of invisibility on all players. At this moment, you seem to disappear from the battlefield, and only your steps across the dusty arena remind you that you are still here. A chance for the brave to reassemble their plans, get out of the line of fire, or set a trap for their opponents. The main thing to remember is that invisibility will wear off sooner or later, and that’s when the fun begins.

  • Gwen is like a ray of light in the chaos of battle. When someone is in danger of dying, she envelops the player with the least health in Sacred Mist. It’s not just a barrier, it’s a second chance. The moment before death turns into a moment of hope. And it’s often this thin thread, woven from her magic, that turns the tide of battle.
  • Jin. If anyone in the arena knows how to put on a show, it’s him. Jin lives for the perfect shot. When his moment comes, he takes out his ultimate ability and puts on a show: one by one, with cold-blooded precision, he damages players. Shots are not just damage, they are a manifesto of the art of destruction. Beautiful, brutal, and deadly effective.
  • Lux. Her eyes see everything. As soon as someone enters her field of vision, Lux unleashes her ultimate ability. A flash of light, a sharp release of power, and enemies are on the brink of death. Her talent is to find the perfect moment to strike the decisive blow. And more often than not, she is right.
  • Nafiri. You will hear them before you see them. The quiet scraping of claws, the ominous steps, and here Naafiri enter the arena – not one, but a whole pack. The creatures hunt champions tirelessly, chasing them down like prey. Their constant pursuit sows chaos on the ground and can make opponents look over their shoulders every second.
  • Pyke. Legendary among those who have ever tried to escape, Pyke will always get his prey. His “E” ability allows him to hit the furthest player, forcing them to realize that there is nowhere to hide on this battlefield. His cold determination and ability to appear out of nowhere make him one of the most dangerous opponents.
  • Samira is chaos, passion, and fearlessness in its purest form. Her style is brash and aggressive. She builds up combo points by watching how players use crowd control, and when she reaches six charges, she unleashes her ultimate. At that moment, she turns into a deadly whirlwind, damaging all enemies nearby. If Samira smiles, it means you better stay away.
  • Sett. He has strong aggression, but behind it there is a cold calculation. When Sett’s health drops to zero, it seems that he is defeated. But no. At the last moment, he activates his “W” ability, directing it at the one who dared to deliver the finishing blow. Such a vengeful blow can not only save him, but also change the rules of the entire battle.
  • Shaco. Shaco is unpredictable. He is like a shadow that laughs behind your back. His “W” ability dissipates throughout the arena, turning the battlefield into a labyrinth of traps and deception. You can never feel safe with him: when you think you’ve got him, it turns out that it’s all just another trick.
  • Vigo. He comes when everything seems decided. Viego appears on the battlefield only for a short time, replacing the first player to fall. The speed is good, which can turn everything upside down: whoever was confident of their victory suddenly faces a new, unexpected opponent. His presence is always an alarming sign of change.

In the fourth round, everything changes. The characters of “Battle Souls” are not just participants – they become catalysts of chaos, hope, despair and triumph. Their appearance makes every fight alive, unpredictable and full of emotions. There are no easy solutions here. Here is a battle not only of forces, but also of characters.

Best Arena Strategies in LoL: How to Win Duels and Rank Up to Champions Fast

Overall, Arena mode is great for almost any champion, and it’s your creativity and strategy skills that determine how far you can go. There are no strict limits here — the game rewards those who experiment and know how to adapt to the dynamics of the battle. Below, we’ll look at one of the most popular and meaningful duets that can help you not only climb the rankings, but also get real pleasure from the process.

Isolation Strategy: Mordekaiser + Renekton (or another fighter)

  1. The combination works due to very well-thought-out control of the place and competent use of the isolation mechanics. The essence is simple:
  2. You take Mordekaiser and one strong fighter — for example, Renekton, Irelia or Camille.
  3. The main tactical tool is the item “Borthalom”, which provides additional protection if the target is far from his allies.

Mordekaiser’s trick is that his ultimate literally “pulls” the enemy into a separate dimension. At this point, the enemy can be completely isolated, and “Bortala” starts working at full power, dramatically strengthening you and your partner. Why is this so effective? Because you essentially create a 2v1 or even 1v1 situation, but with a huge advantage in stats.

Summoner Tactics: Champions with Minions or Turrets

This strategy is perfect for those who enjoy playing mages and manipulating the battlefield. Champions like Heimerdinger, Shaco, and Zyra are particularly well-suited for this approach. The core of this tactic revolves around strategically placing turrets, plants, or traps to control key areas while avoiding direct combat. By doing this, you allow your summoned allies to chip away at the enemy until they’re vulnerable enough to be taken down.

Alternatively, you can consider using Annie and Ivern in this strategy. However, you’ll need a bit of luck with augmentations that allow you to use your ultimate ability twice within a single round. This can create an overwhelming advantage, effectively allowing your team to fight four members against just two of the opposition, making it much easier to secure victories.

Classic Bot Lane Strategy: Marksman + Support Mage

This more traditional strategy involves one player taking on the support role while the other plays as a marksman or a strong duelist. In this setup, support champions like Nami, Lulu, and Milio can provide essential healing and crowd control. Meanwhile, the marksman can be Vayne, Kog’Maw, or other hyper-carries, as well as melee powerhouses like Fiora and Darius.

For the support, it’s crucial to prioritize augmentations that boost healing damage and provide a tether to their allies, enhancing team synergy. On the other hand, marksmen should focus on balancing survivability upgrades with additional damage potential. This combination not only strengthens your lane presence but also sets up a strong foundation for mid-game team fights.

What Arena Classes Should You Stick to According to Stats

The current state of the Arena meta reveals a significant imbalance among the various classes, with some classes achieving win rates that far surpass those of others. This disparity creates a noticeable divide in gameplay experiences. Below, you’ll find the latest statistics detailing class performance over the last 7 to 30 days, covering both Regular Arena and Dungeon modes. This data clearly illustrates the existing imbalance that has become prominent in this season’s competitive landscape.

End of the game

When your team’s health reaches zero, it signals the end of your game. At this point, you have a couple of choices: you can stick around to watch the intense battles of other teams, or you can opt to exit and jump back into the queue for another match—rest assured, there are no penalties for making this choice. Just keep in mind that the results of the match are only recorded once a victor is declared, which means your progress on tasks might not update right away.

If, at any moment, there’s an odd number of teams remaining, one team will be randomly selected to sit out the upcoming match. Take this opportunity to relax and recharge—you’ve certainly earned it! To track your achievements, head over to the Archive Challenges tab, where you’ll find challenges specifically designed for the “Arena.” By completing a sufficient number of these challenges, you can earn a title that highlights your accomplishments and skills.

Remember, your challenge progress won’t be monitored until the match wraps up. If you find yourself eliminated earlier than you’d hoped, you’ll need to wait a little while to see where you stand in the rankings. Patience is key!
