The Prisoner DLC for REANIMAL adds two new collectible masks—Pumpkin Head and Astronaut Head. Both are hidden in the Mall, the DLC’s first major location. The DLC was released on August 7, 2026, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The DLC costs $9.99 and is also included in the $24.99 Season Pass, along with two future story DLCs.

An unexpected but very pleasant surprise: while everyone was waiting for the fall announcements, Tarsier Studios and THQ Nordic rolled out the first story DLC for REANIMAL right out of the gate. The Prisoner arrived on August 7, and it’s not just some cosmetic pack, but a full-fledged new chapter with two new characters—the Prisoner and the Soldier. And yes, it has masks, too.

Where to find the Pumpkin Head mask in The Prisoner?

The Pumpkin Head mask is essentially a welcome bonus for those who look around carefully. It’s located practically at the entrance to the mall.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Reach the abandoned mall—this is the first major location of the DLC.
  • Enter through the revolving doors.
  • Don’t climb the stairs—that’s a major trap for newcomers.
  • Immediately turn right and head north until you reach a pile of trash in front of one of the stores.

The mask is right on top of this pile. Simply pick it up, and it will automatically be added to your collection. That’s it, no extra puzzles required.

Where to find the Astronaut Head mask in The Prisoner?

The second mask is a bit more challenging. The Astronaut Head requires not only attentiveness but also a specific tool. Spoiler: without the Instant Camera, the mask won’t appear. This is a key clue that many people miss.

Step-by-step route:

  1. Proceed through the mall until you reach the area with the fire.
  2. Activate the sprinklers to put out the fire – this will open the passage to the atrium.
  3. In the atrium, climb onto the tank. Rotate its cannon to the left.
  4. Walk along the cannon barrel and jump to grab the ledge.
  5. Once you’re up, interact with the store’s roller shutters – this will take you to the arcade.
  6. Here, use the Instant Camera to take a picture of the astronaut suit.
  7. The helmet will fall to the floor – simply pick it up.

Important: the camera isn’t given to you automatically. You need to find it – it’s in the boutique with the mannequin in the same mall. Ask your partner to help you climb up if you’re playing co-op.

How to equip and switch masks in REANIMAL: The Prisoner?

Masks in REANIMAL aren’t just cosmetic. They function as a full-fledged customization element, and all characters, including your partner, can wear them.

The system is simplified:

  • A mask is automatically added to your collection when picked up.
  • To equip it or swap it for another, open the pause menu.
  • Find the “Masks” section—all the headwear you’ve found will be displayed there.
  • Select a mask and assign it to either your character or a companion.

There are no class or storyline restrictions—wear whatever you want, whenever you want. Want to complete the DLC wearing a pumpkin? Go ahead. Want Soldier Girl to sport an astronaut helmet? That’s also a perfectly valid option.

Are masks required for trophies in The Prisoner DLC?

The short answer: most likely, yes. The Prisoner DLC added 10 new achievements for Xbox, worth a total of 315 Gamerscore, six of which are hidden. Considering that masks in the base game were directly tied to collectible trophies (like “Mask, Do I Know You?”), it’s logical to assume that the two new masks are also tied to achievements.

If you’re chasing 100% completion, it’s best to find the masks on your first run. The DLC is short—it takes about an hour to complete—but going back for a missed collectible is always a bummer. Incidentally, there are only 18 masks in the base game, so each new one is a significant contribution to the overall collection.

Tips for Finding Masks in The Prisoner Co-op

The Prisoner supports all modes: single-player, local co-op on a single screen, and online co-op via Friend’s Pass. And in co-op, finding masks becomes a completely different experience.

Here are a few tricks to keep in mind:

  • Split up. The mall has a lot of nooks and crannies—one player goes right to the pumpkin head, the other immediately checks the atrium. This will save you a ton of time.
  • Use character abilities. The Prisoner has an instant camera (stuns enemies, highlights interactive objects), and the Soldier has a melee weapon. The camera is crucial for the astronaut mask—if you don’t have it, the mask simply won’t appear.
  • Don’t forget about the Friend’s Pass. You only need one copy of the game to invite a friend to online co-op. Searching for masks with a friend is not only faster but also more fun—especially when one of you accidentally falls off the tank.
