Japanese publisher Capcom has announced a major overhaul of the Monster Hunter Wilds product lineup. Starting August 4, 2026, the base game will receive a permanent price cut, while three current editions will be retired—replaced by new bundles featuring a restructured DLC lineup.
The changes take effect on August 4 at 03:00 Moscow Time (August 3, 17:00 Pacific Time). Capcom has not yet revealed the new global price, but the cost for Japan has been confirmed: a drop from 8,990 to 4,990 yen—a reduction of approximately 45%. In other regions, the price is expected to fall from the current $69.99 to between $39.99 and $44.99.

Which editions are being removed, and what is replacing them?
As of August 4, three products will be withdrawn from sale:
-
Deluxe Edition;
-
Premium Deluxe Edition;
-
Cosmetic DLC Pass.
Owners of these versions lose nothing; access to all content remains intact, and individual DLC items will continue to be sold separately.
Three new offerings will take their place:
Thus, Capcom is not merely repackaging old content but consolidating disparate add-ons into clear, cohesive bundles.
Why did Capcom need to revamp its DLC strategy? The real reasons

This decision was not made by chance. Monster Hunter Wilds launched in February 2025 and sold over 11.4 million copies—an impressive start. But then, problems arose.
The game’s technical state on PC was met with a cold reception. Its Steam rating plummeted to “Overwhelmingly Negative,” and the situation only stabilized a year later, following a series of patches.
Sales figures also left something to be desired. For the 2026 fiscal year, Capcom reported sales of just 1.32 million copies of Wilds—a figure lower than that of Monster Hunter Rise (1.51 million) and even the Sunbreak expansion (1.42 million), despite Rise having launched four years earlier.
Capcom publicly acknowledged the serious technical issues present at launch. Now, the company is revamping its editions and lowering the price. On one hand, this is an attempt to attract new hunters ahead of the major Ascendance expansion scheduled for 2027. On the other, it is an admission that the previous sales model wasn’t working.
Should you wait until August 4 or buy now?
The short answer: wait. Starting August 4, the price of the base game will drop by at least 40%. The current Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions will be discontinued, so there is no point in paying the premium price for them just two weeks before they are removed.
If you really want to play right now, buy the base version; if you enjoy it, you can purchase the Cosmetic DLC Collection in August. This way, you won’t lose money and will get exactly the same content.
Comparison with Monster Hunter World: How Capcom has used this strategy before
History is repeating itself. Before the release of Iceborne, Capcom also revised the pricing and bundles for World. Now, Wilds is following the same path a year ahead of Ascendance.
There remains a significant price difference between the games: World costs around $30 on Steam and frequently drops to $10 during sales, whereas Wilds launched at $70. Capcom attributed the sluggish sales of Wilds specifically to its high price point. Now, that barrier is being removed.
What to expect regarding pricing in Russia: a forecast for Steam and the PlayStation Store
There are no official figures for Russia yet. Currently, the base version on Steam costs $69.99 (approximately 5,600–6,000 rubles, depending on the exchange rate). After August 4, based on the 45% price cut in Japan, the price could drop to 3,000–3,500 rubles.
The situation is similar on the PlayStation Store: the current price is $69.99, and the reduction will apply to both platforms. The new prices will likely go live simultaneously across all digital storefronts.
Conclusion: Waiting until August 4 is a logical move. Capcom is sending a clear signal: the game has become more affordable, and the choice of editions has been simplified. The technical state of Wilds has been improved over the past year, and a major expansion is on the horizon. For those who held off on buying the game, this is the perfect moment to jump in.
