If you’ve ever wondered how to get even a small advantage in shootouts and were looking for an Apex Legends character with the smallest hitbox, then you’ve come to the right place. In Apex Legends, hitboxes are an important thing: they determine where a legend can take damage from enemy bullets. The logic is simple — the larger the character model, the bigger the hitbox and the easier it is to hit it. But, as is often the case in competitive FPS, everything is not so straightforward.

The developers of Apex Legends are well aware of how hitboxes affect balance. Therefore, Respawn Entertainment uses different ways to smooth out the differences between the characters. Their task is to create the most honest conditions where success depends not on the size of the legend, but on the skills of the player. It is precisely because of this that the question “who has the smallest hitbox” remains quite complex and does not have an unambiguous answer.

Respawn has long shown that it takes balance seriously. Hitboxes are regularly reviewed, edited, and adjusted to the current meta. Thanks to this, players don’t have to choose a character just because of its size – they can focus on shooting, movement, and tactics. And, to be honest, the size of the hitbox is far from the main success factor. Speed, abilities, weapon control, and teamwork often decide much more. A good position, accurate aim, and timely pressing of the ability button easily overcome any advantages or disadvantages associated with the hitbox.

So who owns the smallest hitbox in Apex Legends?

At the moment, almost all the legends, with the exception of Caustic, Gibraltar and Newcastle, have very similar hitboxes. This means that Lifeline, Bangalore, Octane and many others are roughly in the same category. The difference between them is minimal and doesn’t feel as strong in the real game as it seems on paper. Nevertheless, there is no denying that a small hitbox can still give you an advantage, because it is much more difficult to hit such a character.

The situation used to be much more interesting. For a long time, Wraith was considered the legend with the smallest hitbox in Apex Legends — about 33 square centimeters. For many players, this was the decisive argument. And if you add in her squats, animations, and jerky movements, the hitbox could literally be “broken.” As a result, Wraith has become more than just popular — it has become a real nightmare for opponents.

It was chosen by everyone: from ordinary players to Twitch streamers and esports players. Professionals and TTV players made the most of her mobility, showing movies that an ordinary player could only dream of. Quick repositions, last—minute escape from fire – Wraith fit perfectly into a competitive game where every mistake is worth a win.

But it couldn’t go on like this for long. Respawn recognized that Wraith was dominating too much and began to weaken it gradually. The changes affected both the hitbox and ability cooldowns. Of course, this caused a storm of emotions in the community. Someone accepted the edits calmly, while someone still remembers “that very” Wraith with nostalgia. Apex Legends is constantly changing, new legends are appearing, and the balance — including the size of the hitboxes — also does not stand still. Although Wraith was once the owner of the smallest hitbox, the developers have done everything to ensure that this is no longer a decisive factor.

Nerf of the smallest hitbox in Apex Legends

Starting with season 8 of Apex Legends, Wraith has received a serious nerf. One of the most noticeable changes was the increase in her hitbox. The goal was obvious — to make her more vulnerable and remove the very feeling of “not falling through.” But even this was not enough to finally solve the problem of small hitboxes.

In the following seasons, Respawn continued to adjust. In season 9, the Low Profile perk was removed, which caused legends with small hitboxes— including Wraith, Wattson, Lifeline, and Bloodhound—to take 5% more damage. This perk has been controversial for a long time, and its removal was a step towards a more honest balance. And already in season 11, the developers increased the total size of the hitboxes of some characters, including Wattson, to compensate for the cancellation of the Low Profile.

It is important to understand that despite the talk that Lifeline, Bloodhound, Conduit, Wraith or Wattson supposedly have the smallest hitboxes, there is no official list or exact comparisons. In many ways, it’s a matter of feeling. One player feels that the character is difficult to hit, the other does not notice the difference at all. Ultimately, it is Respawn that decides where the balance line runs.

The constant edits of the hitboxes in Apex Legends are a clear example of how developers try to make the game honest and interesting. Their goal is simple: to ensure that the winner is not the one with the “smaller model”, but the one who thinks better, shoots better, and works as a team. And, apparently, this work will continue. Apex Legends evolves, the meta changes, and players adapt over and over again, exploring the abilities of the legends and making the most of their skills in the fierce battles of Apex Games.

Does Apex Legends have the smallest hitbox in 2024?

To be honest and without too much speculation, at the moment in Apex Legends it is impossible to name one specific character with definitely the smallest hitbox. But something else is known for sure: the legends still have the largest hitboxes with the Fortified perk. We are talking primarily about characters such as Gibraltar and Caustic. This perk gives them increased resistance to damage and slowdowns, but you have to pay for everything — in this case, the increased size of the hitbox.

But if you take the “fort” legends out of the brackets, the picture becomes much smoother. Most of the other characters in Apex Legends have very similar sized hitboxes. The difference between them is so minimal that it’s hard to feel it in a real game unless you look closely or dig into the numbers. Therefore, in the current version of Apex Legends in 2024, it is impossible to say for sure that any one legend has the smallest hitbox. They are all in about the same weight category, and there is simply no obvious outsider in size.

At the same time, it is worth remembering that hitboxes and the overall balance of characters are not fixed values. The developers constantly keep these parameters under control. With the release of updates and patches, the size of the hitboxes may change if Respawn Entertainment deems it necessary to maintain fair play. The studio traditionally strives to ensure that no legend gets a decisive advantage solely because of its size.

As Apex Legends develops and new characters appear, adjustments are quite possible — this is a normal process for a live competitive game. The main goal remains unchanged: that the outcome of battles should be decided by skill, competent strategy and teamwork, and not by a well-chosen hitbox. This approach allows the game to remain dynamic, honest and truly interesting for all players.
