Before starting in Witchspire, you will be asked to decide on a coven — in fact, this is your initial faction. She will give out the first weapon and set the color scheme of the equipment. But this will not affect the gameplay much, we hasten to reassure you. You can’t change the coven after creating a character, just recreate the hero. So it’s better to understand what you’re choosing right away. Our guide to all six covens and their starter buns will help.

Why covens in Witchspire do not replace full-fledged classes
The developer Envar Games bluntly explained in a blog post: covens do not work like regular classes. There will be no radical change in the style of play, as in other RPGs.
Choosing a coven only determines two things:
-
The starting weapon is a Wand or a Spell Blade.
-
The color scheme of your outfit.
In the same blog post, the developers promised unique passive bonuses for each coven. But judging by the current messages in Discord Envar Games, they are not in the game at the moment. Whether they will appear later is an open question. If so, they may slightly adjust your style, but it’s quite realistic to ignore them.
By the way, by starting with the Spell Blade, you don’t deprive yourself of the opportunity to take the Wand. In just a couple of hours you will find improved versions of both types of weapons. So don’t worry.
And once again, the coven cannot be changed after creation. Just a new character. Choose consciously.
Overview of all six Witchspire covens and Starter bonuses
The Cloud Pioneers Coven and the Luxury Element
-
Initial Weapon: Cloudwalker’s Apprentice Spell Blade
-
Elemental Binding: Deluxe
This faction is about courage and positivity. Cloud pioneers are not afraid to go beyond the usual thinking. Their clothes are decorated in warm colors: brown, orange, and gold. They look sincere.

The Starsmiths Coven and the Crystal Element
-
Initial Weapon: Starsmith’s Apprentice Spell Blade
-
Elemental Binding: Crystal
Bold, but with an honest heart—that’s what they say about them. Starsmiths are jack-of-all-trades: they forge magical artifacts and erect buildings. Their violet-lavender color scheme makes them stand out from other covens.

The Coven of Fortune Tellers and the element of Ether
-
Initial Weapon: Diviner’s Apprentice Spell Blade
-
Elemental Binding: Ether
Predictors see the future — the smallest detail is enough for them to get a vision. Their intentions seem to be good, but others often misunderstand them and consider them messengers of trouble. Their clothes are dark purple with light blue inserts. For me personally, this is one of the most beautiful color schemes among all the covens.

The Wildcorn Coven and the Nature Element
-
Starting Weapon: Wildcorn’s Apprentice Wand
-
Spontaneous binding: Nature
These guys are literally burning with love for all living things. Unsurprisingly, their element is Nature. Wildcorns are kind—hearted, but their temper is still the same – quick-tempered, like a dry deadfall in the heat. The clothes are in shades of green, brown and burgundy, which perfectly emphasizes their natural essence.

The Folio Keepers Coven and the Knox Element
-
Starting Weapon: The Folio Keeper’s Apprentice Wand
-
Elemental Binding: Knox
But these ones are already dealing with dark magic, hence the link to Knox. The keepers of the folios are rummaging through ancient texts in search of lost knowledge. An extremely secretive audience, obsessed with past civilizations and forgotten magic. Their clothes are decorated in deep blue and bright pink tones. It looks impressive.

The Night Scribes Coven and the Astral Element
-
Starting Weapon: Night Scribe’s Apprentice Wand
-
Elemental Binding: Astral
And last but not least, the Night Scribes. Their passion is for the stars, and their character is detached. They can often be found with textbooks, telescopes, and scrolls. The clothes combine bright violet with pastel pink. Another one of my favorite color schemes among all the covens.

Comparison of Starting Weapons Spell Blade vs Wand
The six covens offer gamers two types of weapons, six different elements, and a unique visual style. It can be difficult to figure out all the nuances right off the bat, so we’ve compiled all the key parameters into a single cheat sheet.
In fact, all available factions are divided into two archetypes: three covens use the Spell Blade for dynamic close combat with magical support, and the remaining three rely on the Wand — this is an option for a classic caster. If you’re more used to shooting enemies from a safe distance, choose any coven from the shooting troika. Do you prefer an aggressive style and constant onslaught? Your choice is the top three.
The impact of the faction element on the gameplay in early access
At the start of early access, the spontaneous choice is purely cosmetic. Currently, faction magic does not provide unique damage mechanics or protection from resists. The developers of Envar Games have already announced full-fledged passive bonuses, strictly tied to the elements, but they will appear only in the release version of the game. That’s when the difference between Lux and Knox will become critical for building construction. Now it’s a nice element of ent.
Which initial weapon is more effective to choose for leveling

The only variable that dramatically changes the gameplay in the first 2-3 hours is the archetype of your weapons.
-
The blade of spells. It shows excellent effectiveness in early collisions due to the high rate of attacks.
-
The wand. It acts much safer, allowing you to calmly study the patterns of behavior of opponents at a distance.
However, it’s not worth dwelling on this decision. Both types of guns start dropping out of defeated enemies and chests already on the first biome, so the starting choice will not block you from developing alternative game styles.
Final recommendations on choosing a faction for beginners
As you can see, there are no huge differences between the covens. Only the starting weapon and the color scheme. There are also spontaneous bindings, but at the moment they don’t seem to play a special role.
Considering that you will change your starting weapons after a couple of hours on the main quests (you will discover new recipes or find trophies), I would advise you to choose a coven by the color that you like. In the end, this is the only thing that will stay with you for the entire playthrough.
Good luck choosing a coven in Witchspire!
