Former PlayStation Head Criticizes Sony Strategy - Image 1

Sony has been getting hotter lately — and it’s not just about competition anymore. The former head of PlayStation made it clear quite bluntly: it’s time for the company to change something, otherwise it will only get more difficult.

The main complaint is the course that was built under Jim Ryan. Everything seems logical: services are growing, the audience is expanding, and money is coming in. But if you dig deeper, it feels like PlayStation is gradually losing what it was loved for.

This is especially felt on the topic of exclusives. Previously, they were the face of the platform, thus the “reason to buy a console.” Now Sony is increasingly moving towards multiplatform, and for players it no longer looks like development, but as a compromise.

And then the main question arises: what’s next? The game market has become tougher, competitors are more aggressive, and audience loyalty is not endless. If Sony continues to move in the same direction, there is a risk that the PlayStation brand will lose its distinct identity.

There is no panic in the words of the former head, but there is a clear hint: the time to “go with the flow” is over. Now Sony will have to really rebuild, and not just pretend that everything is under control.
