Hideo Kojima has finally freed the couriers from their console captivity. On March 19, at 10:30 AM New York Time, the long—awaited release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach took place on PC – the former PS5 exclusive reached the new platform with all the baggage of current patches and a weighty pack of graphics upgrades. Kojima Productions clearly didn’t mess around with the port, adding powerful optimization tools to the build for a variety of systems.

Graphics and technologies of the PC version of Death Stranding 2

The port was made with an eye to the maximum visual. The developers have removed all frame rate restrictions and screwed on honest high—quality ray tracing – the picture has become much juicier, and the graphics sliders are enough for an hour of picking at the menu.

Death Stranding 2 PC graphics

The main technological trump cards:

  • Smart upscaling — the game has full support for heavy artillery: NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3 and Intel XeSS. Even average builds are stretched, compensating for the lack of raw power.
  • Ultra—wide format – owners of 32:9 monitors can enjoy seamless gameplay, and cinematic cutscenes are adapted to 21:9.
  • Custom control — the keyboard is configurable from and to, plus native support for DualSense controller chips has been added.

Special respect for working with sound. Playing strictly with good headphones is an immersive audio technology that works out one hundred percent. A coincidence? Unlikely, given the recent victory of the project at the prestigious Game Audio Network Guild Awards 2026. And bonus: all the additional content released since the release on the PS5 has already been embedded in the PC version.

Death Stranding 2 PC Performance Test — 1080p, 1440p and 4K FPS

We have collected the average data from Death Stranding 2 PC performance tests. Let’s make a reservation right away: FPS is a capricious value here. The final framerate in DS 2 strongly depends on your processor bundle, the selected resolution, and the activated upscaler (whether DLSS, FSR, or XeSS). So take these figures as an adequate guideline. By the way, if you play on 21:9 or 32:9 wide screens, get ready to put an extra load on the video.

We ran performance tests of Death Stranding 2 on 10 popular video cards in three running resolutions: 1080p, 1440p and 4K. Preset — stable “High” without extreme retrace. This is the gold standard for those who are not fans of sliders on “Ultra”, but want a beautiful picture without frame-time drawdowns.

GPU Performance Benchmarks (High Settings)

Graphics Card 1080p 1440p 4K Comments
RTX 4070 120–140 FPS 90–110 FPS 60–75 FPS Smooth 1440p & 4K gaming with DLSS
RTX 4070 Ti 140+ FPS 110–130 FPS 70–85 FPS Great choice for 1440p 144Hz monitors
RTX 3070 95–115 FPS 70–85 FPS 45–55 FPS DLSS ‘Performance’ mode is vital for 4K
RTX 3060 Ti 80–95 FPS 60–70 FPS 35–45 FPS Ideal for 1080p + DLSS ‘Quality’
RTX 3060 12GB 70–85 FPS 50–60 FPS 30–38 FPS Need to lower shadows/foliage quality
RTX 4060 80–90 FPS 55–65 FPS 32–40 FPS Good option for Full HD with DLSS 3
RX 6800 110–125 FPS 80–95 FPS 55–65 FPS Strong 1440p; FSR helps in 4K
RX 6700 XT 90–105 FPS 65–80 FPS 40–50 FPS Stable 1440p with FSR ‘Quality’
GTX 1660 Super 55–65 FPS 40–48 FPS 25–30 FPS Must disable effects and upscaling
Intel Arc A770 80–95 FPS 60–70 FPS 35–45 FPS Performs better with XeSS and latest drivers

What about the results? The game predictably loves upscalers. If you plan to break into 4K without scaling algorithms, prepare for the pain: even RTX 3070 and RX 6700 XT—level cards start to suffocate there. But on the RTX 4070, the 1440p game feels like the perfect “golden mean” — the picture rings, animations are smooth, statters are absent even in the mixes. Are you on a GTX 1660 or something like that? Your logical choice is 1080p on medium settings. Trying to squeeze 4K out of oldies is obviously a failed idea.

The best graphics cards for Death Stranding 2 — stable 60 FPS

High end GPU gaming setup

Let’s break the pieces of hardware into three understandable shooting ranges:

  1. Basic set: A bundle of Ryzen 5/ Core i5 processors and GTX 1660 or RTX 2060 cards. It’s enough for a comfortable Full HD game, if you mess around with the settings a little and remove unnecessary shadows.
  2. Perfect balance (Sweet Spot): RTX 3060 Ti, fresh RTX 4060 or “red” RX 6700 XT. These guys are calmly pulling 1440p with DLSS or FSR enabled — the detail does not suffer, the frame counter is stable.
  3. Elite: Owners of RTX 4070 and more powerful can safely turn on 4K. We’ve moderated our ray tracing appetites slightly, adjusted our smart zooming, and are enjoying the views of the wastelands.

The plot of Death Stranding 2 — what happens after the events of the first part

The plot of Death Stranding 2

A short educational program. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a direct sequel to the original. America seems to be united, but Sam’s work has not become less: the influence of UCA and Bridges Corporation now needs to be routed across the ocean — straight to Mexico and Australia. The sequel doesn’t just throw the hero into new biomes with new villains. The game collides the old ideals of Hideo Kojima with completely new concepts, which sometimes harshly contradict the lore of the first part, forcing us to look at the universe of Death Stranding from a completely different angle.
