Gunpowder in Windrose isn’t just about dropping it from enemies or finding it in chests. There’s an easier way: learning to make it yourself. To do this, you’ll need a Millstone. The good news: it’s easy to get. The bad news (but not so much) is that the requirement for unlocking the recipe isn’t exactly obvious. Let’s figure it out now.

How to unlock a Millstone in Windrose quickly?
First, you’ll need to reach the Foothills region. Corn grows there, among the hills and ancient ruins. Collect at least one ear of corn, and the Millstone recipe will automatically appear in the “Crafting and Utilities” tab of the building menu. As usual, it can’t be crafted simply: you need “Millstone Parts” and 15 wood.

Where to find corn? Go to the “Ancient Village” points of interest in the Foothills. They’re marked on the map as you pass by, so they’re hard to miss. The Foothills Islands are literally dotted with these villages, so finding one won’t be difficult.
If you haven’t yet discovered the region itself, don’t worry. The Foothills become accessible after completing the main quest “Revenge Served Cold.” Complete it, and the map will expand.
Now about the “Millstone Parts.” This requires a little preparation: upgrade your workbench to level 2. To do this, you need to place sawhorses nearby. After upgrading, you can craft the parts on the same workbench for 15 stone.

How to use a millstone for gunpowder and resources?
The millstone itself is multifunctional. Firstly, you’ll use it to make artisanal gunpowder. Secondly, you’ll use it to make cornmeal, which is needed in some cooking recipes. Thirdly, you’ll use it to make ash, which in turn is also used to craft gunpowder. It’s a closed loop: you collect corn, grind it, get gunpowder, and at the same time, flour for buns. A small thing, but a nice touch.
Main tip: build a millstone as early as possible. This will save you from constantly searching for gunpowder all over the map—especially on long expeditions, where every bullet counts.
