Rockstar and Take-Two may consider delaying the physical release of GTA VI
It seems that the release of Grand Theft Auto VI is turning into a real special operation to preserve secrets. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, apparently, are seriously discussing a plan in which console gamers will initially have access only to the digital version of the game. The discs in the boxes will eventually appear on store shelves with a noticeable delay. Why such difficulties? It’s simple — the publisher is apparently terrified of spoilers and gameplay leaks before the official “X” hour.
Insider information that was leaked through the portal PPE.pl They point to European distributors — that’s where the rumors about a change of strategy started. In fact, the memory of the disaster with The Last of Us Part II is still fresh in the industry. Back then, if you remember, early access to physical copies resulted in key plot twists being leaked online in a matter of days. The developers clearly do not want to repeat such a scenario with GTA 6, the most anticipated project of the decade, so the decision looks logical, albeit offensive to collectors.
The timing issue remains open and causes a lot of controversy. Some sources are whispering that the delay in the physical release will be about 3-4 weeks, while others are scaring the transfer of disk versions as early as the beginning of 2027. Currently, Rockstar is officially aiming for the fall of 2025 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Predictably, not a word about the PC version yet.
In general, the situation is tense, because keeping secrets of this magnitude is an almost impossible task, but Take—Two, apparently, is ready to take drastic measures to control information.
