Frontier Developments announced the Rebirth Expansion, the first major story expansion for Jurassic World Evolution 3. Scheduled for release on June 16th, the DLC will cost $24.99. Inspired by the upcoming film Jurassic World: Rebirth, the DLC will send players to Ile Saint-Hubert. There, players will have to take control of three secret facilities and deal with dangerous prehistoric creatures. Quite a claim.

New Dinosaur and Distortus Rex Overview

Four new dinosaurs. Distortus Rex is a genetic monster with unique kill animations. The developers call it the most dangerous predator in the series, constantly testing the park’s security systems. Also added to the game:

  • Mutadon – a Velociraptor-Pterosaur hybrid capable of aerial attacks;
  • Titanosaurus with its baby (a first for the series);
  • Aquilops are a small herbivore with two age variations.

The roster is impressive, especially compared to previous DLCs, but more on that later.

Story Campaign on Saint-Hubert Island

The story unfolds across three locations: Main Facility, Ancient Valley, and Riverside Lab. Players will research giant herbivores, contain dangerous predators, and create semi-aquatic species. The campaign uses the Assignments system—missions can be completed either as part of the main story or in free mode, unlocking new genomes, behavioral traits, and research. This provides flexibility that was lacking in previous games.

New Management Mechanics and Park Energy

Rebirth Expansion introduces several key mechanics that change the approach to park management.

Geothermal Energy System

For the first time in the series, lay a network of underground pipes to transfer energy between facilities. The stability of the system directly impacts the operation of the entire infrastructure. A new advantage with a full-fledged strategy.

Open Air Aviary Construction

Forget about mesh domes. Open Air Aviary lets you build large, open enclosures for flying reptiles. Plus, advanced terrain editing capabilities. Finally, you can create truly spectacular exhibits.

Experimental Behavior Traits

Scientists on Saint-Hubert Island have learned to add unique characteristics to dinosaurs that influence social behavior and interactions between animals. Deep customization is promised.

Cosmetic Skins from the Rebirth Movie

Cosmetics have also arrived. New models and color schemes will be available for:

  • T. rex
  • Spinosaurus
  • Mosasaurus
  • Quetzalcoatlus
  • Dilophosaurus
  • Velociraptor

Service vehicles—SUVs, ATVs, helicopters—will also receive fresh skins. A small change, but a nice touch.

Comparison of the Rebirth Expansion with previous DLCs

How does the new game compare to what came before? To answer this question, let’s look at the key expansions of Jurassic World Evolution 2, which set the bar high.

Jurassic DLC comparison

Dominion Biosyn Expansion (JWE2)

The largest DLC for the second game. It added a campaign inspired by the film “Jurassic World Dominion,” feathered dinosaurs, new mechanics like invisible pens, and a scenario in the “Chaos Theory” mode. It was considered the benchmark for content volume. However, it did not feature geothermal energy or open aviaries—the mechanics remained fairly standard.

Malta Expansion (JWE2)

Also a story-driven DLC, but smaller in scope. Focused on the dinosaur black market, it featured several new species and additional missions. A solid addition, but without revolutionary gameplay changes.

Rebirth Expansion (JWE3) — What is the Bottom Line

Criterion Dominion Biosyn (JWE2) Rebirth Expansion (JWE3)
Story campaign One new campaign + Chaos Theory scenario Three locations, Assignments system
New species ~4–5 species, including feathered ones 4 species + age variations
Unique mechanics Invisible fences Geothermal energy, open aviaries
Playthrough flexibility Linear Choose the order of assignments
Species customization depth Standard traits Experimental traits affecting social behavior
Launch price ~$19.99–$24.99 $24.99

Rebirth Expansion does not just add content — it reimagines the fundamentals of park management. Geothermal Energy and Open Aerials transform the strategic depth, and the Assignments system provides much-needed freedom. In terms of the scope of new mechanics, the DLC easily surpasses even Dominion Biosyn. But the price is also slightly higher: $24.99 versus the standard $19.99–$24.99 for JWE2. The choice is yours.

Release date and is it worth it

Rebirth Expansion looks like the most ambitious story DLC in the entire series. New dinosaurs, a deep campaign, fresh mechanics, and an abundance of cosmetics—a solid package. If you are a Jurassic World Evolution fan, you definitely do not want to miss this. All you have to do is wait until June 16th. And do not forget to check your parks for overheating—geothermal energy is no joke.
