The post-apocalyptic planet continues to reel. While some legendary series are preparing to return with renewed vigor, others are teetering on the brink of total collapse. We’ve compiled two major game plots for you this morning—one of which, it seems, could take off, while the other could explode right in the hands of the developers.

Bethesda and its classic RPGs are once again in the spotlight. Insiders at NateTheHate have found new evidence of the corporation’s plans, leaked back in 2022. Therefore, remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are indeed in active development—and this is far more serious than fan discussions on forums. This authoritative insider, incidentally, has an excellent reputation, which adds considerable weight to these rumors.

The circumstances are not good. Apparently, Bethesda may be facing the same problem as with the development of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered—the studio simply doesn’t have the source code for the iconic New Vegas. As legendary screenwriter Chris Avellone previously noted, if Bethesda decided to update the NV in-house, the project would have to be built practically from scratch. That’s why the remaster will likely be outsourced to third-party studios. One of the leading candidates is Iron Galaxy Studios.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas on Unreal Engine 5: What Does This Mean for Graphics and Performance

The Gamebryo engine, which powers both games, was never known for its beauty or stability. Now, in 2026, its technology feels like an artifact of the past. That’s why, according to rumors, Bethesda plans to approach Fallout in the same way as it did with the already released Oblivion Remastered: leave the original gameplay intact, but completely migrate the graphics to Unreal Engine 5.

A complete graphical overhaul. The transition to UE5 will likely give the Wasteland modern Lumen global illumination and physically based materials. Modders have long demonstrated what this looks like in practice—independent enthusiasts have ported Fallout 3 to the Unreal engine several times, and the result, even in its raw form, looks like a completely different game.

Stability and performance. The original Bethesda engine had a habit of crashing to the operating system’s desktop at every opportunity—especially in the mod-heavy New Vegas. Switching to a modern architecture should solve issues with crashes, freezes, and low FPS in densely populated areas.

What will remain unchanged. The SPECIAL system, dialogue, plot forks—all the RPG mechanics for which fans love the classics—will remain intact. A remaster is a cosmetic surgery, unlike a remake, where everything is rewritten from scratch.

Ghost Recon on the brink of cancellation – Ubisoft’s internal crisis

While things are looking relatively rosy at Bethesda, Ubisoft is in turmoil. The new installment of the tactical shooter Ghost Recon, being developed under the codename Project OVR, is literally falling apart before our eyes. According to a report from Insider Gaming, the alpha version of the game failed to meet the studio’s internal performance targets. The situation is so critical that management has suddenly reshuffled the project’s management.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Internal sources report that the studio’s employees have been working nonstop for a long time, trying to meet unrealistic deadlines. Behind the scenes, there are dark whispers: unless the situation changes dramatically in the coming months, Project OVR will either be completely rebooted or quietly canceled. Ubisoft management has rejected proposed alternative production plans. “If I received a letter like that regarding production, it would usually mean things were bad,” one source shared.

Previously, the new Ghost Recon was expected to be set in Asia, with gameplay inspired by the realistic and hardcore shooter Ready or Not: a minimalist interface, high difficulty, and an emphasis on stealth. As a reminder, the last full-fledged installment in the series, Breakpoint, was released back in 2019.

In the end, Fallout fans should definitely stay tuned in the coming weeks—given the series’ success on Amazon, Microsoft is eager to drum up interest in the franchise. Fans of tactical shooters, however, may have to hold their breath—the fate of Project OVR currently hangs in the balance.
