Destiny 2’s final update, “Monument of Triumph,” will be released on June 9th. Bungie is bidding farewell to its greatest hit, rolling out its best patch in years. The nine-year run of the renowned looter shooter ends with a truly powerful bang.
Over the past year, the project has significantly lost its loyal audience. The controversial launch of the Portal system and the reversal of many successful decisions from the Joe Blackburn era have taken their toll. The game has become simply stifling. Many veterans (myself included) greeted the news of the imminent end of support with relief rather than real sadness.
What will “Monument of Triumph” add to Destiny 2?
There’s a bitter irony here. The farewell update looks so cool that it begs the question: why couldn’t they have rolled it out sooner? The developers have packed a colossal number of long-awaited quality-of-life improvements into the final build. Spoiler alert: almost everything has been fixed.
Major patch changes:
-
The Portal mechanic has been simplified (removing the tedious fuss with modifiers).
-
All primary weapons have received a significant damage buff.
-
Storage has been expanded by 300 slots.
-
Eight additional equipment slots have been added.
-
Artifact mods are now saved directly to the build.
-
Players can choose from seven artifacts.
-
Built-in anti-champion functionality has been added to all weapons.
-
The loot pool has been updated across the entire game.
This isn’t just a cosmetic change—the fix for manually reconfiguring artifacts with each build change has been a long-awaited feature for years. Players thought the engine simply couldn’t handle it. Now Bungie is just adding it. Is it a shame? You bet.
Therefore, the constant rush for new content left the studio no time to polish the core gameplay. The game literally had to survive until the end to receive its dream patch. But be that as it may, on June 9th, we’ll have a solid reason to return to the servers.
