Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy has launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. The new story takes place 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Players control a younger Sophia as she travels to Minotaur Island. The journey connects her family history with an old curse and a dangerous treasure.

The new story follows Sophia as its main character

Sophia is already known to players of Requiem, but Resonance shows an earlier stage of her life. She is a plunderer who relies on direct combat, movement and practical tools. The change of protagonist allows Asobo Studio to use a different fighting style without removing the historical and mythic tone of the series.

Her friend Leni provides support as enemies from Sophia’s past follow them. The story remains focused on personal choices rather than turning into a general account of the entire world.

Minotaur Island combines traps, puzzles and pursuit

The island contains dangerous paths, underground spaces and a maze linked to its mythology. Players must read the environment instead of treating every room as a direct battle. Puzzles and traps interrupt the combat rhythm and make observation important. An object in the environment can be a route, a warning or part of the solution.

An army also follows Sophia, so exploration does not happen in complete safety. The player must decide when to fight, move or create distance.

The prequel follows events that happened before Requiem

Resonance takes place before Requiem and does not change the order of those stories. Knowledge of Sophia’s later life can add context, but the new game follows its own immediate conflict. The family connection and hidden curse develop through the island journey. They should not be replaced with an invented link to every character from the earlier titles.

The official description confirms a mythic ally and an old secret. It does not reveal every identity, so a spoiler-free article should preserve those discoveries.

The release includes Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere

Focus Entertainment lists the game for Steam and Epic Games Store on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. It is also available through Xbox Game Pass from launch. Xbox Play Anywhere support lets a compatible purchase and save work across Xbox console and Windows PC under the service rules.

Availability can vary by account region and subscription status. Players should check the live store page instead of assuming that every subscription tier includes the game.

The release trailer now shows the finished game

A Gamescom trailer showed new scenes from exploration, combat and Sophia’s conflict with the force hidden on the island. That trailer was a final preview before the 27 August launch. The game is now released, so its systems can be checked directly by players and reviewers.

The setting, protagonist, period and platforms are confirmed. The game reveals the meaning of the curse during Sophia’s journey.

Sophia’s skills support a different combat and exploration style

Sophia is older and more experienced than the children at the centre of the earlier games. Resonance can therefore use different tools without losing the series’ focus on danger and limited resources. Her movement and knowledge of the island shape how the player reads each area. Minotaur Island combines open views with enclosed ruins. A distant landmark can guide exploration, while narrow interiors bring the threat close again. Puzzles can use architecture and historical objects instead of relying only on locked doors.

The story is set before Sophia meets Amicia and Hugo. It can explain part of her past without changing events that players already know. The strongest connection will come from consistent character choices, not from repeating scenes from the earlier games.
