The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta will begin on August 21st—and it’s not just standard access. For the first time in the series’ history, a beta will include a story mission. Infinity Ward has decided to go big.
Early access for pre-orders starts this Friday, August 21st, and runs until the 25th. The program includes classic 6v6 modes, the massive Ground War, Kill Block, and, of course, that very mission from the single-player campaign. It will all be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Battle.net and Steam).
But the real action is still to come. An open beta will run from August 28th to September 1st, and there are no restrictions—everyone with a PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and even a Nintendo Switch 2 can participate. It’s completely free. Interestingly, pre-orders for Nintendo’s hybrid console start separately on August 26th, so Switch owners should keep their eyes peeled.
The release is scheduled for October 23rd, but before then, there’s still plenty of buzz about Call of Duty: NEXT, a major presentation that takes place on August 21st. Apparently, the beta will begin immediately after the stream, so fans should plan an evening for watching and playing.
By the way, during the second weekend of the open beta, the developers will also add modes from Warzone—Zodiac Resurgence—and a new map for Ground War. So, there won’t be a dull moment. The key is to don’t miss the launch: early access opens at 11:00 AM PT, and the open beta opens at 10:00 AM PT. Double-check your time zone to make sure you don’t miss it.
