Fortnite’s Override Season kicks off on August 20th—and it’s more than just another Battle Pass change. Epic Games has released an announcement promising a shakeup of the map, a ton of collaborations, and a reimagined Sprite experience. Here’s a quick rundown: Chapter 7, Season 4, titled Override, will begin on Thursday, August 20th, 2026, after a 4-6 hour downtime. The main theme is Gaming Legends, and confirmed crossovers include Sonic, Tetris, Persona 5, and 99 Nights in the Forest. The Battle Pass will cost 800 V-Bucks, and all Sprites from the previous season will be moved to a special Garden. The key feature is not only the new content but also the ability to view your season stats on the official website.

Sound like a typical seasonal update? No, it’s not. Epic have decided to outdo themselves: instead of the usual POI changes and a couple of skins, we’re in for a full-blown crossover blizzard. Even the slogan—”Break the rules. Change the game!”—hints at the idea that familiar mechanics could be turned upside down. And that’s not all.

The season officially starts on August 20th, but five days earlier, on August 15th, an in-game event called “Unstable Plot Moment” will occur. This will likely reduce maintenance, although several hours of server downtime are still expected. The exact time of the downtime hasn’t been announced yet—based on past seasons, it starts around 2:00 AM ET, with servers returning 4-6 hours later. We’ve compiled the expected hours for the main regions in a table so you don’t have to guess when you can log in.

Region Downtime Start Time (estimated) Estimated Game Release Time
US East Coast (ET) 2:00 AM 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
US West Coast (PT) 11:00 PM (previous day) 3:00 AM – 5:00 AM
UK (BST) 7:00 AM 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Europe (CEST) 8:00 AM 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Moscow (MSK) 9:00 AM 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Japan (JST) 3:00 PM 7:00 – 9:00 PM

Keep in mind: these are estimates, not a hard schedule. Epic may shift the time, but they generally stick to this schedule.

What crossovers await us in Override?

This is where the fun begins. This season, Epic seems to have decided to gather all the iconic characters from gaming history—and yes, this is a tribute to the entire industry, not just a marketing ploy.

Sonic the Hedgehog—confirmed by official teasers. A Sonic skin, a themed Green Hill Zone point of interest, and the mythical Spin Dash item, which allows you to accelerate and demolish buildings. Looks like a great way to add speed to the meta.

Tetris—another surprise. Tetriminos-shaped clouds will appear in the sky, and the Junk Rift item will drop entire blocks on opponents. Additionally, a new POI will appear on the map in the former Sunken Shores area—rumor has it that it will house a themed area with falling figures.

Persona 5—Joker, the main character, has also been leaked. It’s unknown whether he will be included in the Battle Pass or the store, but fans are already rejoicing.

99 Nights in the Forest—now that’s a surprise. Many expected a crossover with Five Nights at Freddy’s due to the phrase “Survive the Night” in the files, but it turned out to be a reference to the horror game 99 Nights. So, no animatronics—only forest nightmares.

By the way, the rumors about Minecraft and FNAF turned out to be false, don’t fall for them. However, Kingdom Hearts is mentioned on the list—perhaps it will be part of a future update during the season.

What will change on the map and in gameplay?

The map will receive several new POIs: Green Hill Zone, Tetris Zone, and possibly another Persona 5-themed location. Old favorites will also return, but with new visuals. Epic isn’t just repainting buildings—they’re completely rebuilding the landscape, so you’ll have to learn the map anew.

New Fortnite map locations

In terms of mechanics, Sonic Spin Dash will be your primary means of transportation in battle, and Tetriminos Junk Rift will add chaos to the destruction. There’s also talk online of a new hacking ability that will allow you to temporarily disable enemy traps. However, this hasn’t been confirmed yet.

What will happen to the Sprites from Season 3?

Remember those furry companions you caught last season? They’re not disappearing. All Sprites will be moved to a special Sprite Garden—a separate location on the island where you can admire your collection and visit your friends’ guest gardens. However, they will no longer appear in the Battle Royale itself—only as decorative elements in your wardrobe (styles for Back Bling or as part of the Guardian costume). A new generation of Sprites will also be introduced in Season 4, which will automatically appear in your Garden upon capture. So collecting continues, but now it’s more… contemplative.

How much does the Override Battle Pass cost?

The price remains the same—800 V-Bucks (around $8.99 / £6.99). If you complete the entire pass, you’ll get back exactly the same amount, no more. For those looking to speed things up, the Battle Bundle is available for 2,600 V-Bucks—it unlocks 25 levels right away. And, of course, the Fortnite Crew subscription for $11.99 per month gives you access to all passes, a monthly bonus of 800 V-Bucks, and exclusive rewards.

If you’re not ready to spend money, you can accumulate V-Bucks for free—but beware of scammers who promise freebies. The only honest way is to complete challenges and save up from previous seasons.

FAQ – a quick rundown:

  • When does the season end? Expectedly November 5, 2026.
  • Will there be an end-of-season event? Most likely, yes, but there are no details yet.
  • Is the pass worth it? If you enjoy crossovers and are willing to play regularly, definitely yes.

Overall, Override looks like one of the most action-packed seasons in recent memory. Epic has clearly done a great job of packing it with content to ensure there’s something for every player. We’re looking forward to August 20th and getting ready for the reboot. If any new details emerge, we’ll be back with more. Stay tuned!
