With exactly two weeks to go until the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, GSC Game World has decided to really ramp up the excitement. The studio has released an eight-minute gameplay trailer, finally revealing what fans have been waiting for since the announcement: the Iron Forest, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and the new mutant, Cadaver. The expansion will be released on August 20th on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
This isn’t just “another trailer.” The developers clearly demonstrate how the Zone has changed: labyrinths of anomalies, abandoned station buildings, and a whole new level of suspense. The video reinforces the belief that GSC has focused on a horror atmosphere rather than an action extravaganza. Tellingly, this is exactly what the community has been waiting for.

Eight Minutes in the Zone — Key Shots from the New Video
The trailer is replete with details that can be analyzed frame by frame. The Iron Forest appears as a vast network of tunnels and open areas, literally crammed with anomalies. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is no longer just a backdrop: the building greets the player with gloomy halls, rusty staircases, and a plethora of dark corners. The pacing of the video alternates between tense silence and bursts into gunfire—the direction is designed to unsettle the viewer.
Where to watch the latest Cost of Hope gameplay
The video was published on the official GSC Game World YouTube channel on August 6th. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should do so now, as any screenshots or summaries will lose half the impact.
Cadaver—the mutant we’ve been waiting for
Cadaver is the main star of the video and arguably the most dangerous enemy in the DLC. In the base game’s artbook, he was described as the “perfect soldier”—the result of experiments carried out by Project X. However, he never appeared in the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and many have already assumed it was just a cut concept. Now, Cadaver will officially take up residence in the Zone, and judging by the trailer, meeting him will be a serious challenge for Skif.
Story DLC – What We Know About the Campaign
Cost of Hope unfolds parallel to the events of the main game. Skif receives a mysterious signal on his PDA, leading him to the epicenter of the conflict between Duty and Freedom. This confrontation is rooted in old ideological differences familiar to every stalker. New characters will also be added: Zulu, a veteran Duty member, and Mavka, a Freedom fighter. Their role in the plot has not yet been revealed, but it’s clear that without them, the overall aesthetic experience will be incomplete.

Release, Platforms, and a Large Free Patch
The release date is August 20, 2026, and that’s more than just a number. On the same day, all owners of the base game will receive the extensive update 2.0, which upgrades the project to Unreal Engine 5.5.4 (up from 5.1.1). The improvements promise to be noticeable, from graphics to performance. The platforms supported are the usual ones: PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The price of the expansion has not yet been announced, but given its scale, it’s expected to be in line with the standard price for major DLCs.
PC System Requirements
According to digital stores, the minimum requirements have not changed: Core i7-7700K / Ryzen 5 1600X, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB. However, with the transition to the new engine, a more powerful graphics card may be required for stable play at high settings.
The release is just around the corner. If you’ve been putting off returning to the Zone, now might be the perfect time. Especially considering the base game is getting a major technical update, and the new DLC promises exactly the horror experience many have been yearning for.
