The Valley of Mines was built for a lone hero, but fans have decided friendship beats canon. Just a couple of months after Gothic 1 Remake launched to “Very Positive” reviews on Steam with an 88% rating, an unofficial multiplayer mode is already in the works.

The project is called Gothic 1 Remake: Multiplayer, or G1R: MP for short. YouTuber F0rtuno revealed the mod, saying the mode is coming “soon” — and it’s not just a cosmetic add-on, but a full platform for community-run servers. The goal is to let fans explore the open world together, form guilds, and play through the Nameless Hero’s story as a group instead of solo.

When Does the Gothic 1 Remake Multiplayer Alpha Launch

The first test build is scheduled for this month, meaning players eager to try it out could get hands-on access as early as August 2026. That said, the developers are quick to temper expectations: don’t expect the alpha to feel like a finished release.

This is an early development milestone, not a polished product. The team is upfront about likely bugs and missing features — real-time world synchronization between players is notoriously finicky, and getting it right on the first try is rarely realistic.

What We Know About Access and Future Plans

There’s no confirmed release date for a full version yet. Public access to the project files will likely open only once the developers are confident network synchronization is stable and free of major issues.

Here’s what to know before getting your hopes up:

  • Project status — a fan-made mod, not officially affiliated with Alkimia Interactive or THQ Nordic.
  • Format — a platform for spinning up community servers, not a built-in game mode.
  • First test — alpha build launching in August 2026, with limited features.
  • Risks — bugs, unstable sync, possible crashes.
  • Public release — files go public once stability testing wraps up.

For longtime fans of the original trilogy, the idea of co-op in the world of Khorinis feels like a long-overdue dream — and the Gothic modding community has never lacked persistence. Still, this is a first step, not a finished product. Worth keeping an eye on F0rtuno’s channel, but hold off on planning a co-op playthrough until a more stable build lands.
