Control Resonant will be released on September 24, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and macOS. Completing the main story will take approximately 30 hours, and exploring all the content will take approximately 50 hours. Remedy is changing the main character: instead of Jesse Faden, players control her brother, Dylan, who awakens from a coma and attempts to save Manhattan from a paranormal invasion.

Control Resonant Completion Time and Story

In an interview with TechRadar, lead designer Sergey Mokhov revealed the numbers Control fans have been waiting for years. The main story is approximately 30 hours. For perfectionists who surpass the standard playthrough and intend to collect every single secret, the time is approximately 50 hours.

For comparison, the first Control took 10-12 hours to complete with the main story, and around 40 hours with all the DLC. Resonant is Remedy’s most expansive project in the studio’s history. Mokhov confirmed that the sequel will be a major step forward. Players can expect not only a story campaign but also dozens of hours of additional activities.

By the way, if you 100%’d Control in 30 hours, Resonant will take the same 30 hours just to complete the main story. The remaining 20 hours are comprised of side quests, hidden bosses, and exploring a warped Manhattan.

Control Resonant Release Date and Platforms

Release Date: September 24, 2026. The game will be released simultaneously on:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC (Steam, Epic Games Store)
  • macOS (later in 2026)

Price: $59.99 for the standard edition and $69.99 for the Digital Deluxe. The Deluxe version gives access 48 hours before the official release, but only on PS5.

An important detail: the game is not officially available for purchase on Steam in Russia. You’ll have to find workarounds or wait for physical copies—if they even become available.

Control Resonant Plot and Protagonist

The events unfold years after the ending of Control. Jesse Faden has disappeared. Her brother, Dylan, who has been in a coma since the disaster at the Oldest House, finally awakens.

New Protagonist: Dylan Faden

Dylan is Jesse’s twin brother, who was taken by the Federal Bureau of Control as a child and subjected to cruel experiments. In the first Control, he was more of a victim and antagonist. In Resonant, he becomes the protagonist, and with that, his role in the story changes.

The Oldest House Taken Over and Jesse’s Disappearance

Jesse has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The Oldest House—the FBC headquarters—has been overrun by Issa, Mold, and other paranormal threats. Dylan must not only survive but also figure out what exactly has escaped the Bureau and begun to destroy reality.

Game Location: Distorted Manhattan

Instead of the corridors of the Oldest House, there’s an open but distorted Manhattan. A city slowly being consumed by paranormal forces. The districts are divided into large zones, each with its own side activities, hidden encounters, and secrets.

Combat System and Builds in Control Resonant

Remedy has poured everything it has accumulated over years of working on action games into the combat system. The main innovation is the Aberrant weapon.

Aberrant Weapon Forms and Transformations

The Aberrant is a transforming melee weapon that changes form depending on the situation. Five forms are available:

  • Dual Blades – Fast area-of-effect attacks
  • Axe – Powerful but slow strikes
  • Scythe – Medium-speed with good control
  • Whip – Ranged attacks and crowd control
  • Heavy Hammer – Devastating blows to single targets

Melee and Paranormal Abilities

Battles have become faster and more aggressive. Dylan shoots and fights. The developers drew inspiration from Devil May Cry 2 and 3, as well as PlatinumGames games. Mokhov admitted: this is a tribute to the studios that set the standard for action combat. Coincidence? Unlikely. Remedy clearly wants Resonant to be perceived not as “another Control,” but as a standalone, more dynamic project.

Besides weapons, Dylan has paranormal abilities: Shift (a spatial dash) and Reach (a telekinetic grab). Combining weapons and abilities allows for custom builds to suit each player’s style.

Character Leveling and Build Customization

A branching talent system, artifacts with passive bonuses, and the ability to summon turrets—all this provides room for experimentation. Your choice of skills directly impacts how you tackle missions: you can emphasize aggressive melee combat, control, or support.

Is it necessary to play the first Control?

Mokhov answered bluntly: not necessary. The main menu of Resonant includes a brief summary of the events of Control—for those who haven’t played it or have forgotten the details.

But if you play the original, the experience will be more profound—especially in terms of the story. You’ll understand who Jesse is, what FBC is, and why the Oldest House isn’t just a building. So the choice is yours: dive into Resonant right away or refresh your memory first—it won’t hurt.

Bottom line: Control Resonant is Remedy’s biggest game yet. 30 hours of story, 50 for the perfectionists. A new hero, a new city, new weapons, and a combat system that surpasses anything the studio has ever done. Release date: September 24th. Get ready.
