On July 29, 2026, Canadian studio Reset, founded by veterans of BioWare, Inflexion Games, and Timbre Games, officially unveiled its debut project, The Eventide. It is a single-player supernatural detective game in a neon noir style, currently in early development and will be released on PC via Steam. The exact release date is still unknown, but the page has already been opened for wishlisting.

“We see the world as we need it, not as it is,” said Studio Reset producer and creative director Cailin Lavallee. “With The Eventide, we wanted to create a detective game where solving a case is not just about finding clues. It is important to experience the events through the characters perspectives to understand what those clues mean.”

Who is creating The Eventide: a team of veterans of BioWare, Inflexion, and Timbre Games

Studio Reset is not just another indie studio. It was founded by three game industry veterans: Kaylin Lavallee (producer and creative director), Chris Schoneberg (design director), and Francis Lacuna (art director). The teams credits include work on Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Long Dark, and even Anthem. The studio is based in Edmonton, Canada, and was announced back in May 2026.

And this is not an isolated case. In recent years, many former BioWare developers have launched their own projects, but The Eventide is trying to stand out not by boasting big names, but by offering a fresh take on the genre. The team reimagines familiar mechanics and takes them to a new level, offering players a truly unique experience.

The games visuals draw on the style of oil paintings and the aesthetics of the PSX, but with painterly brushstrokes and swirls. The camera is fixed, like in classic adventure games, adding atmosphere and control over the frame. The city in The Eventide is stylish, strange, and deeply unsettling. Beneath its lights, residential areas, storage rooms, and forgotten corners, something is emerging from unseen places.

What is The Eventide like? Inspiration: The X-Files and The Case of the Golden Idol

The developers explicitly cite two sources of inspiration. The first is The X-Files: the investigation of paranormal phenomena hidden from the public, a team of specialists who see what others miss. The second is The Case of the Golden Idol, with its “find-first, think-later” approach, where every clue requires interpretation rather than collection.

The Eventide investigation gameplay

But The Eventides main feature is the Parallax Deduction system. Instead of a single protagonist, you choose two agents from the growing ranks of the Exodus Agency. Each analyzes a scene in their own way: a cryptozoologist looks at biology and physical evidence, a former detective reads motives and social dynamics, and the enigmatic Kira picks up on mental and emotional traces.

The same crime scene can lead to completely different conclusions, depending on who you send on the mission. This is not a dialogue choice, but a fully-fledged mechanic that influences the course of the investigation. The truth does not disappear it exists in one version of the world.

What is the Parallax Deduction System?

Agent Specialization Investigation Approach
Evelyn “Eve” Attwood Cryptozoologist Relies on physical evidence, biology and systematic analysis
Sam “Brass” Hingle Former Detective Reads people, motives and social dynamics
Kira [DATA REDACTED] Perceives hidden mental and emotional energies

Each case begins with the question: “Who should investigate?” Players assign two agents, and their combination determines what evidence is found and how it is interpreted. The roster will expand in the future, with agents capable of spotting hidden patterns in ancient writings, peering into the ethereal planes, or using high-precision technology to analyze unidentified energy.

The Eventide is built around deduction, not guesswork. Players solve cases by comparing perspectives, reading context, and interpreting the evidence agents bring back from the scene. And this is just the beginning the project is in its early stages, but it is already clear: Studio Reset is developing something more than just a detective story.

What is next? Wishlist the game on Steam and stay tuned for news the release date and new agents will be announced later. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser trailer and appreciate the overall aesthetic the visual style already looks polished to a shine.
