Korean studio ABUTTON, a team of veterans of DAVE THE DIVER and Counter-Strike Online, has officially announced Guns & Dragons, a co-op roguelike first-person shooter set in a magical fantasy world. The first public playtest will begin on July 30th and run until August 10th, 2026. You can apply now via the title’s official Steam page.

What is known about Guns & Dragons?

Development is being handled by the South Korean division of ABUTTON Inc. The team includes creators who have worked on such hits as DAVE THE DIVER and Counter-Strike Online. The project is a dynamic co-op shooter with roguelike elements, designed for solo play or sessions with up to three players. Players will fight their way through hordes of monsters in abandoned caves, dangerous dungeons, and once-peaceful fantasy villages. The game takes place in a vibrant universe where magic coexists with insane engineering. Of the target platforms, only PC has been officially confirmed so far—the release will take place on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Incidentally, the overall aesthetic and combat dynamics of the project are built on a combination of classic gunfights and constant equipment evolution. Between runs, players can place new structures in their personal base and research arcane technologies.

«Guns & Dragons is a labor of love!» said ABUTTON game director Park Jun-woo. «We wanted to capture the thrill of creating increasingly outlandish weapons and give players the opportunity to test how far they can push these experiments. Combat in the game is designed to be responsive and challenging, but when it comes to evolving weapon builds, there’s something magical about the freedom of experimentation. We’re excited to finally unveil Guns & Dragons and let players experience it for themselves in the first playtest, which starts on July 30th.»

The issue of text localization is also worth a separate mention. Industry media outlets have reported that Russian isn’t available at all. However, the project’s Epic Games Store page lists it as available. With reports inconsistent in the lead-up to release, the translation issue remains open. The game’s full release date hasn’t yet been officially announced (TBA).

How do I sign up for the Guns & Dragons playtest?

The first open test will be held exclusively on Steam. To grab your chance to master the gameplay mechanics before anyone else, follow these steps:

Steam playtest signup

  2. Find the «Request Access» section and confirm your desire to participate.
  3. Wait for an email notification: the developers are sending out invitations in stages.

The test begins on July 30 and ends on August 10, 2026. The starting whistle will sound promptly at 10:00 AM Moscow time (12:00 AM PT / 3:00 AM ET). The project will also be showcased at ChinaJoy 2026 from July 31 to August 3, where visitors will be able to try out the demo version live.

Guns & Dragons PC System Requirements

To ensure the game maintains a stable frame rate and doesn’t stutter during boss fights, the developers have published a basic hardware setup. Please note: the developers have only disclosed the minimum parameters; a recommended configuration is not yet available.

Parameter Minimum System Requirements
OS Windows 10 (64-bit)
Processor Intel Core i5-4690 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X

Weapon Modifications – Runes, Artifacts, and Build Evolution

ABUTTON’s pride and joy is its in-house arsenal designer. At the start of each run, players receive a standard loadout: a basic pistol or bow. But as the game progresses, this basic weapon begins to acquire insane modifications.

Each run is built on combinations of three elements:

  • Runes: alter firing physics and imbue ammo with elemental damage.
  • Artifacts: passive relics that dramatically alter a character’s stats.
  • Skills: active abilities that complement custom builds.

Example of weapon evolution in a single run

You start with a run-of-the-mill revolver. By the middle of the dungeon, after tinkering with modifiers and inserting the right runes, you transform it into a bewitched machine gun. By the end of the zone, this barrel-mounted wonder fires ricocheting, homing bolts of magic, causing chain explosions. There are hundreds of variations—the creators will do everything to keep the player interested in experimenting.
