In the mission “Keys”—the penultimate mission in Halo: Campaign Evolved—there are three skulls and one terminal hidden. To collect them all, you’ll need to complete the level with the following conditions: beat the five-minute time limit on Heroic or Legendary difficulty, deal with a pair of Hunters in a tight corridor, and even beat up an infected captain. Sound like a quest for perfectionists? It is. But the rewards are worth it—trophies, unlocking modes, and a sense of accomplishment. We’ve broken it all down: where to find them, the requirements, and the bonuses each item provides.

Why Skulls and Terminals Matter in Halo Campaign Evolved

Skulls are collectibles that do not hang on walls like they usually do. Each one changes gameplay: making enemies more difficult, disabling the interface, or triggering unexpected effects like explosions upon enemy death. They are activated in the menu after you have picked up a skull in a mission. Terminals are interactive lore points: they reveal plot points, character connections, and the mysteries of the Halo universe. In the mission “Keys,” the terminal is called “Consumed” and is located in the area where you encounter two Hunters.

List and Effects of All Skulls in Mission Keyes

  • Catch — Enemies use grenades and thrown weapons more actively. A dangerous modifier, especially on Legendary difficulty.
  • Blind — Disables the interface completely: no crosshair, health indicator, map, or hints. The game turns into a hardcore survival simulator.
  • Pinata — Killed enemies drop more ammo and grenades. Useful for protracted battles.

Narrative Value and Purpose of Terminals

Terminals do not affect the mechanics, but they provide important story layers. “Consumed” sheds light on Captain Keyes’s experiences after the infection and connects the mission’s events to the larger Halo story. If you value narrative, you should not skip terminals.

Preparing to Collect Items in Mission Keyes

Before rushing to collect the skulls, you need to set up your game properly. Meticulous preparation will save you hours of restarts.

Choosing Difficulty Level and Checkpoint

For the “Catch” skull, the Heroic or Legendary difficulty is mandatory—no other difficulty. However, other activated skulls will prevent it from spawning, so make sure all skulls are disabled in the menu before entering. It’s best to start a new game and select the “Keyes: Rally Point Alpha” checkpoint—this takes you straight to the beginning of the mission without having to play through previous levels.

How to Complete Five Minute Speedrun for Catch Skull

The main challenge is to complete the journey from the start to the gravity lift within five minutes. Here’s how to do it without any unnecessary route changes:

  • Ignore all enemies at the start. Do not engage them; run past, dodging their shots.
  • Use cover and speed—run without stopping.
  • You will have to clear out the Covenant at the lift—grenades and precision shots will help you quickly eliminate enemies, but do not linger on collecting ammo.
  • Once the enemies are dead, press the interaction button on the platform—it will lift you onto the ship, and the skull will be on the floor immediately after exiting.
  • If you miss the time limit, restart the checkpoint. After the third or fourth try, the route will become memorized, and five minutes becomes a real milestone.

Where to Find All Skulls and Terminal in Mission Keyes

Below are detailed instructions for each item. The order isn’t important, but we recommend starting with “Catch” to immediately complete the timed requirement.

Catch Skull Location and Requirements

Above the gravity lift, immediately after exiting the Covenant ship. The main clue to its appearance is the timing: less than five minutes into the mission. Difficulty: Heroic or Legendary; all other skulls are disabled. As soon as you ride the lift, the skull will be lying right on the floor, hard to miss. Its effect is that enemies throw grenades more frequently and with greater accuracy. On Legendary, this skull can turn the level into hell, but it’s a must-have for the collection.

Blind Skull Location in Shuttle Hangar

Follow the main objective to the shuttle hangar. In the first large room where the Flood and several Covenant vehicles (the Ghost and the Wraith) spawn, drop down. In the far left corner, you will see a passage blocked by a Covenant tank. Crouch and crawl under it, then follow the corridor to the left—the “Blind” skull will be by the locked door. It disables the entire interface, so it’s best to pick it up once you have memorized the level.

Consumed Terminal Location and Guide

After entering the hangar, follow the “Go to the Upper Deck” sign, but take your time. Immediately to the left of the entrance, you will see an open door—go inside. The corridor will lead you to two Hunters. Kill them (it’s best to use heavy weapons, like the Rocket Launcher), then enter the room on the right where they emerged. There’s a terminal on the wall. Activate it to trigger a story fragment about Captain Keyes’s fate and his superiority over the other infected.

Pinata Skull Location on Captain Bridge

Warning: Spoilers for the mission’s story follow.

After you reach Captain Keyes (already infected by the Flood), a cutscene will begin. Afterward, turn around and begin melee attacks on Keyes’ head. It will take four or five hits—even if you do not see any hits, keep going. At some point, the skull will fall to the floor. This is the “Pinata”: it increases the amount of ammo dropped from killed enemies. A nod to the old Halo mechanic—this skull was once called the “arcade skull” for its usefulness.

Rewards and Achievements for Collecting Items

Skulls and terminals themselves are only half the battle. Collecting them unlocks achievements and opens the door to global trophies for the entire game.

Clean Sweep Keyes Achievement Requirements

In Halo Campaign Evolved, each mission has a separate “Clean Sweep” achievement for collecting all the items in a specific mission. In Keyes, it’s called “Clean Sweep (Keyes)” and requires collecting all three skulls and a terminal. This achievement counts toward the Platinum trophy.

Global Trophies Headhunter and Collectors Addition

Collecting all 39 skulls in the campaign earns you the “Headhunter” achievement. Adding all the terminals unlocks the “Collector’s Addition.” These trophies are considered some of the most difficult in the game, and the “Keyes” mission is a key point along the way. Activating the skulls also unlocks new difficulty modes (for example, “Blind” is often used for challenge runs). Reaching 100% is worth it, if only for the sake of your Halo fandom.

Item Summary Table for Mission Keyes

Name Type Difficulty / condition Checkpoint Effect Exact location
“Catch” Skull Heroic/Legendary, all skulls off, time < 5 min Kees: Alpha Rally Point Enemies use grenades more actively Above gravity lift, on the ship floor
“Blind” Skull Any Kees: Hangar Disables HUD Left corner of hangar, under the tank, near locked door
“Consumed” Terminal Any Kees: Hangar Story lore Room after killing two Hunters, right of the entrance
“Pinata” Skull Any Kees: Captain’s Bridge More ammo from enemies Drops from Captain Kees after 4–5 melee hits

Now you know where to look for every item and what conditions to meet. The most challenging requirement, “Catch,” requires patience and a couple of restarts, but the others are accessible even on easy difficulties. Complete everything in “Keys,” and you will be one step closer to achieving that coveted 100% in Halo Campaign Evolved. Good luck on the battlefield!
