This Friday, June 12th, the roster of the superhero action game Marvel Rivals will be joined by the legendary leader of the X-Men, Cyclops. The developers officially confirmed that Scott Summers will be firmly in the Duelist role (Damage class), slightly disappointing those who predicted he would be a Tank. The wait for the mutant leader has been quite long: he was first teased in the Season 8 launch trailers, but the first update was Devilosaurus, which is why Cyclops was saved for the mid-season patch. Now, all the details have been dotted.

What to expect from Cyclops and Season 8.5 in Marvel Rivals?

In the new Dev Vision diaries, the authors not only revealed Scott’s combat role but also detailed his moveset, along with the accompanying new features of Season 8.5. The character’s gameplay, as expected, is based on his famous optic beams.

Key gameplay features for the new hero:

  • Ricochets and Geometry: Cyclops’ lasers can be aimed directly at opponents or launched in clever trajectories, bouncing off walls and other environmental elements.
  • High Mobility: Accumulated kinetic energy allows the mutant to quickly move around the battlefield, evading attacks.
  • Team Synergy: Wolverine and Cyclops each gain a unique dual move, “Explosive Slash,” allowing Logan to charge his adamantium claws with his partner’s laser energy.
  • Ultimate Damage: Summers’ ultimate is a colossal optical blast that literally burns away everything in its line of fire.

Beach Content, 18v18 Mode, and a Roadmap Rescheduled

In addition to the expanded roster, Marvel Rivals will also be getting a massive, fun “Bounty Hunt” mode, where 36 players will face off on a new map (18v18 skirmish). To celebrate this, NetEase has rolled out a juicy lineup of summer skins—characters will be dressed in swimsuits and board shorts. You can check out the new skins and chat with other players in the new social location, “Hell’s Bay Beach.”

It’s worth noting that simply by playing and logging in daily during the summer event, gamers can easily accumulate 2,500 Units.

However, there’s some bad news: the developers have had to reshuffle their global plans. The next stage of the massive content cycle, “Road to Doomsday,” has been postponed until the end of July, and its third phase is now scheduled for mid-October. Apparently, the developers have learned their lessons after the frankly lackluster and unsuccessful start of the Avengers event, and are now taking additional time to polish the gaming experience.
