The Vulture in Gothic 1 Remake is a cute little animal, as well as the real key to mobility even before you open the teleporters. Yes, you can get a mount in the Colony, and this is one of the most well-hidden, but extremely useful secrets of the remake. Running fast through locations, dodging monsters, and saving a lot of time is definitely worth the trouble.
But you can’t just get a bird. You’ll have to collect the ingredients first. You will need: 5 purple glowing algae (dive into lakes and rivers in search of the “Royal Tide”), 3 wolf skins (get them by hunting after learning from Drax or buy them from merchants) and 3 leather belts (also sold). Remember this set — Kohsel won’t even talk without it.

Where is Kohsel’s hunting hut on the map?
We go to the North Gate (the one through which you first entered the Old Camp). Turn left and stomp down the road to the intersection. Over there, to the right. We go down the bend, pass by the house on the right, and continue until we see a small hillock and a broken log on the right side of the road. We turn left, climb up — and there it is, a hunting hut. A Vulture is sitting in the stall, a pet wolf named Dandy is dozing on the floor. Inside is our client, Kohsel.
Completing the Beak quest is in progress to summon a mount
Talk to Kohsel, select all the dialogue options, and then ask for a bird as a transport. He will, of course, refuse. But you insist. And insist again. Eventually, the old man will give up and ask for the same seaweed, skins and belts. First you give the algae, then the rest.

Now the best part: we have to wait one full game day. Let Kohsel work. Return to the hut in a day and collect the reward. The Vulture’s whistle and riding skill are yours. Equip the whistle in the quick access toolbar, and call your feathered friend anywhere on the open map.

How much ore and training points does a Vulture cost?
Before you go in search of algae, soberly assess your reserves. The Beak at Work task is not cheap, so get ready to shell out at least 280 pieces of ore and invest 6 learning points (LP). And this is without taking into account leather belts, the cost of which is floating among merchants.

*A small life hack: if you have already managed to build up your stamina or feel confident in the water, you don’t have to spend money on Homer — you can clean the dam anyway. However, we still recommend that you bring him these 5 LPS. Scuba diving skills will help you out more than once in flooded mines and when collecting nishtyaks from the bottom of rivers throughout the Minental.
How to save ore on pumping skinning?
There are several important details that the standard guides are silent about, but which will seriously save you time and nerves.:
-
For the belts— go straight to Fisk. Searching for leather belts in chests at the beginning of the game is a dubious activity. Fisk always has them in the Old Camp, and he’s asking for pennies for them.
-
Where to find the skins. There won’t be any problems with wolves. A whole flock lives in an abandoned sawmill, literally fifty meters above Kohsel’s hut. You definitely won’t have to run across the entire map to Drax for this.

-
The payback of hunting. Buying a skill from Aidan for 250 ores is a strategic investment in your character. From now on, every carcass of a defeated beast turns into a net income, so that the costs will be reflected instantly.
-
No restrictions on fractions. The best part is that you don’t need to earn authority from local barons or magicians to start the quest. The task is available to absolutely any convict already in the first hours of the game.
The 300 experience points you get for completing it are, frankly, a symbolic reward. But the result itself is important here. The whistle for summoning a mount and the ability to stay in the saddle completely change the dynamics of movement around the Colony, because you will not receive full—fledged teleportation runes very soon – closer to the middle of the second chapter.

Mount management and riding rules
The controls are easy: F — climb / dismount, Shift — acceleration. And yes, the bird can be petted. This is a separate advantage for everyone who loves animal affection in an RPG. But there is a caveat: you can’t fight on horseback. Enemies can easily overwhelm both you and the Vulture. So it’s better to avoid the monsters in an arc.

You can not drive inside camps and caves — only in open spaces. But before teleportation runes (which, let me remind you, require magic training and open towards the end of the game) This is generally the only way to move quickly around the Colony. Masthave for survival — no kidding.
