Fans have done what EA never dared. Free. For everyone.
The Kyber and Battlefront Plus teams are officially launching Star Wars Battlefront Resurgence in May 2026. The game is available on PS5, Xbox, and PC—without a single payment. Essentially, this is an unprecedented layer of content for the fan movement, effectively becoming the third installment in the series. It’s unofficial, but in terms of scale and content, comparisons with the original Battlefront 2 are simply unbearable.

What have EA added during the years of silence?
Over the past few years, enthusiasts have equipped the game with features the publisher never even hinted at. New characters. Weapons. Modes. A server browser. Mod support. The roster of heroes is now impressive: Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Din Djarin (aka the Mandalorian), as well as Tran and Jango Fett. Cal Castis from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Asajj Ventress from the Clone Wars animated series have been added separately. These aren’t just cosmetics—each character changes gameplay, bringing vast variety to every match.
Technically, it’s the same as Battlefront 2, but it feels different.
“Spread the word. Battlefront Resurgence 2026 starts in May,” the developers urged on X (formerly Twitter). PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players are encouraged to prepare for their return to the galaxy. This project is a heartfelt tribute to the original. PC content will be distributed free via Battlefront Plus, and mod-enabled multiplayer will be provided by the Kyber platform. Registration for participants has already begun—and the number of interested parties has exceeded expectations.
Step-by-Step Instructions: How to Install Resurgence?
Let’s get this out of the way. Resurgence is not a standalone client, a torrent build, or a remake. This is a massive mod on top of the licensed Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) from EA—the same one that was distributed on the Epic Games Store and is sold on Steam. Everything is deployed through the Battlefront Plus launcher, and the Kyber platform is responsible for multiplayer. Without the original game, nothing will work—a copy from Steam, EA App, or Epic is required. The launch patch weighs in at around 12-15 GB, plus mods are downloaded as you go. Get your SSD ready.

What should you prepare in advance?
Before digging into the game files, put together a basic checklist. Miss one step, and you’ll either get a black screen or a beautiful crash with the DICE logo. This has been tested by generations of modders.
-
The latest version of the licensed Battlefront 2 (2017). Pirated and old builds are removed
-
At least 90 GB of free SSD space: the game itself, mods, and a backup of the original
-
Installed .NET Desktop Runtime 8 and the latest Visual C++ Redistributable
-
Disabled antivirus software on first launch. Defender regularly detects the Kyber .dll injector as a Trojan—a classic example
-
A Discord account. Without it, you can’t access the community server browser
Installation: six steps, no magic
It sounds complicated, but in reality, it takes about forty minutes, not counting the loading time. The main rule: don’t touch the game folder manually while the launcher is running. Otherwise, the integrity check will kick you back to the starting point.
Installation errors and how to fix them?
The first launch is truly the most painful stage. The project is raw, and there’s a lot of fiddling around. Here are the most common errors and how to fix them:
Black screen after the logo. Delete the ModData/Cache folder and restart the launcher. In 8 out of 10 cases, this fixes it right away.
“Unable to connect to Frosty” error. The engine conflicts with old mods from the Frosty Mod Manager. Delete them completely.
Crash on map loading. Not enough VRAM, simply. Ultra textures require at least 8 GB of video memory—turn it up to High if you have something like an RTX 3060.
“Kyber auth failed.” Add the client to your firewall exceptions. Port 7777 UDP must be open to the outside world.
The game starts in the vanilla EA version. The shortcut is pointing to the wrong location. Recreate it using Battlefront Plus → Create Shortcut.
If the client continues to crash at startup after all these steps, it means EA’s anti-cheat has replaced starwarsbattlefrontii.exe with the original. This can be fixed by verifying files in Battlefront Plus: the launcher re-applies the modded executable. That’s it. You can plunder caravans—or rather, storm Kashyyyk with the Mandalorian.
Fans are thrilled, streamers are joining in
The community’s reaction is a predictable flurry of enthusiasm. They’re posting old screenshots on social media and demanding new trailers. Streamers, by the way, have already received invitations to join the promotional campaign. And that’s understandable: Resurgence has long been perceived as “the Battlefront 3” that EA never released. Now the wait isn’t long—May is just around the corner.
