UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection Review – Free Download on Steam
As a devoted Uncharted fan, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the worlds created by Naughty Dog, and in particular the adventures of Nathan Drake. The series has always been able to combine intense action with sparkling humor, and with the release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, I have the opportunity to dive into these fascinating stories again. This collection brings together two of the best titles in the franchise, and although I’m familiar with them, they surprise me with their beauty and depth every time. Let’s take a look at what’s new in this version and how it looks on modern platforms.

UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection Review by VpeSports
I’m a huge Uncharted fan, so much so that I’ve probably spent more time with Nathan Drake than any other game character. I’ve played through every game in the series multiple times, including the Vita title. I even got pretty deep into the lesser-known Uncharted: Fight for Fortune. I’ve loved the mix of action and humor in the franchise since its inception, and I was thrilled to see how The Lost Legacy continued that tradition after the main series concluded in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
It’s been a while, though, since I’ve interacted with Drake, Nadine, Solly, and the rest. The Lost Legacy came out in 2017, and I’ve probably played through it twice, but I’ve been waiting to see what Naughty Dog has to offer next, keeping a wary eye on their work on The Last of Us.
While the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection isn’t a new release for the franchise, it still gives fans like me hope by confirming that Naughty Dog hasn’t forgotten about us. I missed out on this collection, which combines the single-player campaigns from Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy in remastered form, when it launched on PlayStation 5 earlier this year. But with Sony bringing many of its first-person shooters to PC, I was able to play through the collection this week and… holy shit. I forgot how beautiful these games are.
I’m sure there are a lot of people reading this who aren’t familiar with Nathan Drake, but since the collection is coming to a new platform, there may be some newcomers out there. So here’s the deal: the Uncharted series follows Nathan Drake, an adventurer with a quick wit and a heart of gold. Drake is something of a thief; like Indiana Jones, he makes his living by finding artifacts from other cultures and “liberating” them. Unlike Indy, however, Drake doesn’t send anything to the museum. He and his partner (and sometimes mentor) Solly are all about the money.
The Adventures of Nathan Drake: Introducing the World of Uncharted
In the Uncharted games, Nathan Drake goes on a quest to find artifacts and gets caught up in a thrilling international intrigue. He usually faces opponents who are after the same item, which turns his adventures into a thrilling race around the world. Drake explores tombs and catacombs, solves ancient mysteries and, of course, causes a real massacre, destroying many enemies. He is a charming sociopath with a sharp mind, loyal friends and does not hesitate to throw opponents off cliffs or shoot them if they get in his way.
The gameplay in Uncharted has become quite familiar, although some plot twists can still surprise. Drake displays almost Herculean strength, climbing walls and making jumps that you would think he should not be able to. His favorite activities are shooting and puzzle solving, although the order of these actions often changes. Uncharted’s shooting is simple, but satisfying. The game automatically targets enemies, which makes it a real challenge to protect Drake long enough to take them all out. I prefer to leave the auto-targeting on, although it can be turned off in the menu. There are stealth elements that can be fun, but I mostly find myself rushing into combat guns blazing. Uncharted 4 introduces small open areas to explore (similar to The Lost Legacy), which adds depth to some of the middle chapters of each game.
- Exciting search for artifacts
- Worldwide intrigue and enemies
- Exciting puzzles and action
- Supernatural elements
- High quality plot and acting
At the end of each adventure, Drake encounters supernatural elements of his journey: statues come to life, the dead rise, and so on. He often has to make difficult decisions, and he usually chooses the right path, even if it costs him the artifact he desires. Everyone has their favorite moments, but the amazing stories and acting make these games consistently a lot of fun, and I wholeheartedly recommend the entire series. As good as the new Tomb Raider titles are, Uncharted sets the gold standard for adventure games.
Uncharted 4 and a World Reimagined: The Hijackers Legacy
Arguably the biggest and best game in the series, Uncharted 4 brought Drake’s story to a solid conclusion. At the time, it seemed like the adventure had come to an end, but just a few years later, Naughty Dog released The Lost Legacy. Originally intended as DLC for Uncharted 4, The Lost Legacy grew into a full-fledged game, albeit a shorter and more concise one. It starred supporting characters Nadine Cross and Chloe Frazer, proving that the formula could work without Nathan Drake. Despite only having nine chapters compared to Uncharted 4’s 22, The Lost Legacy feels like a complete game and is every bit as good as its predecessor.
Reviewing remasters of games that have been around for over five years can be tricky. If I were reviewing these games when they came out, I’d be hard-pressed not to give them all a 10 out of 10. And here we are, five years later, and they still look and play better than many of the current-gen titles. I’m very familiar with these games, and I can say that I’ve played through most of their content like a pro. Drake, Chloe, and I have explored these worlds enough times that we can move around them like a monkey; the question of “where to go next” has long since been left behind. So I spent my time with the Legacy of Thieves collection lightly, skipping a lot of the side quests and treasure hunts in favor of focusing on the main story.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves – A Perfect Return
There’s no doubt in my mind about the greatness of the games in this collection. So this review comes down to how well the new version runs. And it certainly runs flawlessly. To be clear, both games looked great on the PlayStation 4, with top-notch graphics that still impress. But my humble gaming PC (with a GeForce RTX 2080) was able to run Legacy of Thieves at 2560×1440, delivering a solid 60 FPS on all ultra settings. And I have to say, it might be one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen on my monitor.
This is usually the point in a review where I’d mention the slight framerate hiccups when there were a lot of enemies on screen, or the textures not loading as quickly. Forget about it. None of that happened. The game’s performance was outstanding. But make sure to let the shaders load on first launch; skipping this step will significantly increase loading times. For me, it took about four to five minutes the first time I launched each game, but I unfortunately missed this process on my first try, making loading a real pain. Once completed, this loading step is smooth, and the game launches from the main menu in seconds.
I played The Lost Legacy on my PC first, and was again struck by how stunning the game looks. At the beginning, Chloe Frazer is walking through an open market in India, and the richness of the colors and textures… well, Naughty Dog is just showing off what they can do. Soon after, planes fly over and bomb buildings on the horizon, and the explosions look very realistic – not too flashy, but convincing enough to make an impression. The whole game continues in this vein, where every movement, shadow, and texture is carefully crafted and delivered to your eyes in the best possible way.
If you need proof of the beauty of this game, just stop for a minute and look around. Pay attention to the textures nearby. Study the floorboards in the room, the paint peeling off the walls, the rust on the deck of the boat. Look at details like the stitching on young Nathan’s denim jacket: not just the texture of the denim, but the places where the jacket has worn and the denim has frayed. As many great games come out every year, not many development teams can create what Naughty Dog can. Uncharted 4 certainly looks just as good. I don’t have an ultrawide monitor, but I wish I did, because some of the panoramas in Uncharted 4 are just incredible.
- Flawless PC performance
- Amazing 2560×1440 graphics
- Realistic details and textures
- DualSense controller support
- A must-have collection for fans
For fun, I connected my DualSense controller to the PC, which I’ve never done before. I usually use a wired Xbox controller, which handles this game just fine. But once I tried the DualSense, I stuck with it for the rest of the game. PlayStation 5 owners will know why — the reaction triggers themselves are a standout feature. I wonder how many non-PS5 PC owners have picked up DualSense controllers to play these Sony games. If you play these games and haven’t tried them yet, it might be worth considering. As expected, the on-screen prompts have changed to accommodate the new controller layout. The only issue with the DualSense was when I first connected it: the system switched the audio so that it sounded like the controller was a speaker. This was probably my fault, as I shouldn’t have to do that on the go, but it’s worth noting.
The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection brings together two of the best action-adventure games of all time and shows them off in the best possible light. Limited only by the capabilities of your gaming PC, both the performance and content of these titles are nothing short of outstanding. Laughs, tension, and great presentation; this collection isn’t just recommended – it’s a must-play.
